Bee Cave (the town, sometimes also spelled Bee Caves) is named for the
overhanging limestone bluffs where wild bees once nested. (See
http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/BB/hnb17.html for
the Handbook of Texas Online entry.) Pretty soon the "bee cave" became
a landmark ("Meet me at Bee Cave." "Old Joe-Bob is now living up at the
Bee Cave."). As more and more people settled in the area, it grew into
a community of sorts, and was eventually incorporated. There is no
"cave" as we cavers think of it at Bee Cave, although the TSS database
lists 4 real Bee Caves in other parts of the state (Brewster, Culberson,
Kinney, and Hays counties), as well as Bee Cave Spring (Real), Bee Caves
Spring (Kerr), Bee Creek Cave (Travis), Bee Hive Sink (Brewster), Bee
Rock Indiana Camp Shelter (Coryell), Bee Shelter Cave (Travis), Bee
Spring (Travis), and Bee Tree Cave (Travis). I would go on, but I'm
just BEEt.

I am curious about Bee Cave in Austin. I receive a catalog of birding
tours available from Field Guides, Inc. located on Bee Cave Road,
Austin. The company list dream birding trips far and wide. Anywho, does
anyone know something about Bee Cave?

Preston Forsythe in KY and far from Bee Cave
