One of the most powerful environmental groups in Central Texas has filed
for bankruptcy Tuesday.

Save Our Springs Alliance <http://www.sosalliance.org/> filed for Chapter
13 protection from a $300,000 judgment against it in a lawsuit with the Lazy
Nine Municipal Utility District.

The Texas Supreme Court refused to review or set aside the verdict in the
Lazy Nine lawsuit, prompting S.O.S. decision to file bankruptcy.

Back in 2004, the S.O.S. Alliance sued developers claiming that building a
massive development in the Hill Country would cause major pollution of
waterways along Highway 71.

Save our Springs Alliance has been a major advocate for preserving water
and wildlife in Austin's greenbelts and the protection of the Edwards
Aquifer and its surrounding watershed.
