A store called Gander Mountain has
a new 3 watt LED headlamp made
by the Browning Co.

It retails for $ 86.00 there.

This should be an ideal caving lamp,
assuming your willing to buy lithium
batteries or the newer rechargeable
li-ions.

Although the headlamp is small, it
is too much light for a cave like
Airmans's, and I think the burn time
is probably less than 4 hours.

Has anyone ever burned out a Luxeon type LED? Has
anyone experienced light failure with a luxeon type lamp? I have
several flashlights using these bulbs, and they seem to be a more reliable
than the standard krypton bulb.

I think a creative caver could mount 2 of these headlamps on
their helmet. This would give you plenty of light in a borehole
passage, and provide a back-up light source using the same batteries
as your primary light.
