Subject: NSS IO Notices
Date: Thu, 16 Jun 2005 21:29:03 -0400

Here are a few topics of interest to I/Os as we approach the NSS Convention.
------------------------------------------
Consignment Sales:
------------------------------------------
I was named chair of consignment sales this week. The following info will
be
helpful to the IOs planning on bringing merchandise to consignment for sale.
Please, help to get the word out. Thanks, Elaine Hackerman

Consignment Sales-July, 2005 NSS Convention

1. You can save time at consignment check-in Monday morning 8:30-Noon by
having all your merchandise properly numbered and priced with 2 copies of
your
inventory list completed. Your fee for selling is 10% of all items sold
with an
employee clerking rather than volunteers. That's the lowest ever. If there
is a problem and there is no employee, the fee is 10% volunteers and 20%
others.

2. For individual sellers, use your NSS number to identify your
merchandise.
For internal organizations, use the NSS number of the person who has
responsibility for your merchandise. Place a dash (-) after the NSS number
then
consecutively number each item starting with "1." Ex: 9048-1, 9048-2...
Thus
if you list 50 tee shirts on the first line, each will have a different
number
after the dash from one through fifty.

3. On the inventory list:
a. Name of person responsible for merchandise who will check-out and accept
the check, which probably will be distributed Friday;
b.  Name that should appear on the check;
c.  Address the check will be mailed to (if not paid on Friday);
d. Use one line for each different item. First put the NSS number being
used then under the NSS number, group the multiple copies of each item or
list
single items. Add description. Then put the price (no pennies/multiples of
$.05). Do it this way so you can get paid the correct amount of money.
e. Example: 9048-
1-10 T-shirts Cavers do it in the dirt $12.50
11 high top caving boots $5
12-25 newsletter The Underground $3

4. If not done in advance, bring price tags and paper to do the above at
check-in.

5. When adding merchandise later in the week or marking down the price,
wait
for clerk to make the changes on the inventory sheet.

6. Check out your merchandise with the clerk Friday starting at 1:00 PM.
Check-out ends at 3:00 PM.

Provided annually as a service to our members.

Motions for the Summer 2005 Congress Of Grottos (COG) Agenda Meeting

Central Arizona Grotto moves:
Cave and Karst Conservation and Restoration Fund
The Cave and Karst Conservation and Restoration Committee is established in
the office of the Administrative Vice President. The fund shall be
administered by the Conservation Committee. Each year one-fifth of the
donations to the Cave and Karst Conservation and Restoration Fund may be
transferred to the NSS Operating Fund as revenue for use as Cave and Karst
Clean-Up, Restoration and Conservation Grants.

Cave and Karst Clean-Up, Restoration and Conservation Grants
The Conservation Committee is authorized to spend up to $5,000 annually from
the General Fund and is listed in the Budget of the Administrative VP.
Matching dollar for dollar grants of up to $500 to NSS Internal
Organizations, NSS Conservation Task Forces, NSS Conservancies, or NSS
individuals for specific projects. Recipients of these grants shall submit
written reports to the Society as stipulated by the Chairman of the
Conservation Committee.
The purpose of the fund is to provide matching dollars for dollars for
"boots on the ground" direct cave and karst clean-up, restoration and
conservation. Examples include: Trash removal from caves and sinks,
graffiti removal, equipment and transportation of equipment necessary to
restore caves and karst, building and maintaining cave gates.
Matching dollars is defined as a dollar for dollar match. This is not
matching dollars to labor. This is not matching grant money for land
purchases or scientific investigations. Donations made to the fund are in
addition to the money contributed by the NSS.

Comments: These motions commit less than one percent of the annual NSS
operating budget (i.e. $5000) to actual cave and karst conservation and
restoration projects. These are actual NSS matching dollars to projects led
by NSS members who have arranged for additional non-NSS dollars.
Individual donations are in addition to the NSS financial commitment.
Individual donations are leveled over five years like the Convention Surplus
Designated Fund to provide stability for inter-year conservation fiscal
consistency. Note: this is matching dollars.
