New on Texas Beyond History (TBH), the virtual museum of Texas' cultural
heritage:
www.texasbeyondhistory.net/prehistoric/

Prehistoric Peoples of the the Plateaus and Canyonlands (central and
southwest Texas) is the first region of
Prehistoric Texas, a 5-year expansion initiative for the award-winning
public service website published by the Texas
Archeological Research Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin
in partnership with eleven organizations and
agencies.

This large and complex set of online materials is presented through
graphical interfaces, as exemplified by the Plateaus
and Canyonlands interactive map. Select a map layer, spot a location
that might interest you and click to learn more.
Similarly, across the top of the map are eight topic sections; select
one and follow your interests. Integrated within the
exhibit set are new interactive learning activities for kids and lesson
plans for teachers.

Also new are a major exhibit on Hinds Cave and a small one on the Honey
Creek site. The Hinds Cave exhibit,
developed in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology at Texas
A&M University, ranks as one of our most
extensive site exhibits on TBH -- don't miss the "Explore Hinds
Archeology" section.

All of these new online exhibits were underwritten by grants from the
National Endowment for the Humanities and
the Texas Preservation Trust Fund (Texas Historical Commission) and
supported by other grants and donations
listed in the Credits section of the exhibit set. This new set of TBH
exhibits also represent a major collaborative effort --
please see the exhibit credit sections for acknowledgement of the many
organizations and individuals who contributed
content.
