This article is for anyone considering going to the next NSS Convention. There is a very scenic drive thru the Cascade Mountains that is about about 2 hours from the convention.
One scenic spot that can be driven to, is called "Artist Point." Here is a view of Mt. Baker from there: http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/gyngve/MtBaker/MtBaker.0015.jpg Here is a view of another peak from there: http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/gyngve/MtBaker/MtBaker.0019.jpg Here is another view from there: http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/gyngve/MtBaker/MtBaker.0027.jpg It looks like from Artist Point there is a small peak called Tabletop Mountain that can be hiked up relatively easy. Supposedly it is a 1 1/2 mile hike with 500 foot elevation gain, which doesn't really count as climbing a mountain, right? Another hike in the park that seems to have good reviews is called "Granite Mountain." Here is a popular easy hike to an ice cave in the park: http://www.attrition.ws/19/mediumhikedetail.cfm?pagenum_pics=1#1 David Locklear
