It was generally the third weekend in October so as to avoid, as has
been pointed out, the TAG Fall Cave-in, which is the Columbus Day
weekend. Columbus Day is the second Monday in October. That would put
TCR on the third full weekend unless the first of October is a Sunday
or Monday. Regardless of whether someone goes to TAG, the three-day
weekend provided by Columbus Day to some workers makes that weekend a
good one for distant caving (Guads, Arkansas, etc.), although I don't
know how widely Columbus Day is observed as a day off. -- Mixon
