The On-line and E-pub versions of the Texas Caver are up!

My printed copy of The Texas Caver (2014, Vol 63, Issue 4) arrived today, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. An entertaining mix of stories and photos reflect the diversity of Texas cavers through time and place. Here are some examples.

Joe Camp Pearce (NSS #2903) begins his tale of caving in the old days with "In early 1953, ..."

Katherine Goodbar (NSS #5538) is remembered by a Memorial tribute (author?) to her many contributions to caving, TSA, NSS, etc. "She continued caving into her 70's."

The new generation is represented by a photo spread of the recent wedding of Ellie Watson and Galen Falgout; David Ochel's "Survey Contest Results" at TCR, and Jill Orr's description of living and caving in France. "There are no snakes in French Caves." (!)

Scientific research is covered by two authors: George Veni's penetrating article on geophysical surveys to answer the eternal question (How deep is this guano?), and Alex Velasco's description of the 1st Texas Hydro-Geo Workshop hosted by the Bexar Grotto at Cave Without A Name.

Exploration in places far far below is described by Bill Steele in "Huatla Revisited", where one team "turned around in a 20 x 20 meters borehole passage." (Because they were bored? You're not in Texas anymore.)

Exploration and comedy are combined in a hilarious tale by Bennett Lee "It All Started With Geary". Snips include "He worries about everything....I should mention that Geary has been struck by lightning before,..."

Eye-catching front and back cover photos by Allan Cobb, and many more good color photos inside by others.

The extra $10/year I pay for hard copies of The Texas Caver is well worth the price for this issue alone. I give it ***** (5 stars). Congratulations to the editor Jill, the proofreaders, the authors, photographers, and everyone else involved!
