Love this line, David, as a measure of how remote somewhere is: Ely is a remote place. The nearest Walmart Store was a 3 hour drive

For me personally, getting back to work in the real world was both physically and mentally challenging. I had symptoms similar to Regret Sex. Meaning, I enjoyed it, but regret doing it. Had I accepted some cavers offers to stay home for financial gain, I would have not missed work and could have easily relaxed by the pool. I am almost caught up at work with the task that I postponed. Everything would be fine now, if my customers were not such a**holes, ( I have lost all respect for attorneys ). All I have left to do is tedious bull-collecting, meaning I finished all the deliveries that I postponed. That was mostly luck. When I was leaving Houston for the trip 10 days ago, I was optimistic that I would either pick up a caver along the way, or a Craigslist rideshare-rider. I even tried to get cavers flying into Phoenix and Vegas to ride with me. And even nudged one caver to drop work and to fly out to Vegas. But that was all wasted effort. I have rested up now, and I should be back to my normal grumpy self tomorrow. It sounds like the convention was a success. I would have never believed 1,000 cavers would show up in Ely. Ely is a remote place. The nearest Walmart Store was a 3 hour drive. I could have easily spent a week in Ely in April or September. But not sure if I would want to live there. I think it would have been like living in Alpine, Texas, as far as being far from things. However, there was really cool stuff within a 6 hour drive. I have no idea what life in Ely would be like in the peak of winter, but I can only guess that it is harsh. See you all in Rio Rancho in 2017. I hope I can fly to that, but will most likely wait till the last minute and drive again. I encourage young cavers to attend next year's convention. It is inspiring to meet like-minded people who love caves, and the maps are so cool and the photos and artwork are interesting. And there are usually unique opportunities to go caving.
