Any old timers out there remember a 1960s or 1970s caver named Mike Collins? I’m asking for former Texas A&I and UT Grotto caver Steve Bittinger, who now lives in Australia. Steve was recently going through his old caving gear and found a locking carabiner with Mike Collin’s name on it. Unlike me, who subscribes to the caver salvage rule (any gear left with me for more than a month becomes mine), Steve is apparently wracked by remorse over having inadvertently hung on to Mike’s valuable biner for 50 years.
