I just called Kristina Hagar to see if there is a way to record Sean's presentation so it can be seen later by the "virtually impaired" members of the club, including me. She said yes that can and will be done. It would be good to have every speaker's presentations preserved in a format(s) that could be a backup, just in case computers and programs change. (What are the chances of that?)

The Underground Texas Grotto is very fortunate to have access to excellent speakers on the forefront of cave and karst studies, and their talks need to be preserved for posterity. With permission from the speaker, of course. Thanks to Kristina, David Ochel, and everyone who can make that happen.

      QUICK START GUIDE

 1. You don’t have to have a zoom account to join
2.
Download the app ahead of time, on both your laptop and phone.
     1. https://zoom.us/download

<https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fzoom.us%2Fdownload%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR1MkKX-haYmmRHA1Z6oWLIHBZGVmJfcpKvnqv4oQ99MCmg3_fbQ4oQro6U&h=AT3Bq98DwNZtRcDwXvKf6ic4rL-CfZaCK5hgzyEgfSgJe0pcvrR18afSeU2Zl_KrUi9cZ3gxMbuwtOW5MHphSIIFRiZdPr9AmUVbdTVR3wVLC0J1hFCUuDr64o7cgvK8ilNCkxbnVocb49mshZM9S2KrHqDGyTfw9VA>
     2. The best experience is on a laptop/desktop or even tablet
since there will usually be a presentation, but a phone will
suffice if that’s what you have.
3.
Use the test meeting zoom provides (https://zoom.us/test

<https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fzoom.us%2Ftest%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR3ps0l52Bih23S9JOfj6a7NyAV4gMQobI3_VyliJVNr7LcAE4qG4pgy8jA&h=AT2zFpBugBgIjs_hlwXxkbh-rS2gz6--KACF275f1bx5LD16Qv9xmyWBmYTbvjMSxluKomD0fgetV8yTQge0dHQCAku1xVUdFZB4LJaEWMy2Q5UHL6_eSbBc1BoD1rY9iaEc1aL3lr0kt8Bh0bc_mIDToV2y2Q4xI_U>)
     1. For the test meeting you are the only one there, so to verify
audio, please use the 'test audio and mic' function
4.
    Audio tips
     1. The best results are if you wear a headset (earbuds and
microphone) plugged into your laptop headset jack (or a
bluetooth one). Any cheap one will do and will make it way
easier for others to hear you speak. It will also
significantly reduce any feedback and environmental noise
degrading everybody else’s audio experience while you are not
        on mute.
     2. If you are just listening, not wanting to talk, you can listen
        without the headset.
     3. The next best results are using the ‘connect by phone’ option
to call in from your phone and video from your laptop (ever so
slightly tedious, but it works well especially if your wifi is
        struggling).
     4. For audio, the worst option is to use your mobile phone with
the zoom app and connect over the network. In our experience
this was the most difficult to understand people, but it’s
there in a pinch if all else fails.
5.
    Video tips
     1. Remember you’re on video :-)
     2. If you have little bandwidth (videos are glitchy, audio isn’t
clear), you can disable your camera (and even hide incoming
video streams) to preserve your bandwidth for content being
        presented and better audio quality.
     3. Video sucks power. You may want to plug your device into a
power source when using video chat for an extended amount of time.
6.
Keep in mind there’s a chat window! It’s useful for asking
questions during the presentation or chatting with your fellow
    grotto members.
     1. That said, when the meeting is over, the chat window goes
away. You can continue convos on facebook messenger, text, etc.
     2. Or you can get your own free zoom account! (free)
     3. Also you can chat with the whole group or just with a specific
person. If you are wanting to ask a speaker questions, then
you should direct your question to them specifically, or the
whole group. If you are asking a question about the
presentation to the speaker, then specify that with “Question:
        I was wondering...:”
 7. When you enter the meeting, you will be muted. You can unmute
yourself as needed, but please mute yourself during the meeting or
while you are not talking to reduce background noise. The host(s)
may mute you if this is going a bit haywire.
