Now that was fascinating.  Mil Gracias!

Of course, here at Fort Stanton, there was a successful hospital that housed 
hundreds of TB patients from 1898 to about the late 1950’s.  The old cavalry 
post transitioned to the TB hospital AND many of the patients and staff 
explored parts of Fort Stanton Cave as well.   Today the historic fort, built 
in 1855, is a NM State historic site with many fine museums and a fabulous cave 
exhibit created by FSCSP (Fort Stanton Cave Study Project) volunteers and the 
BLM.
