Good point about the blended tabs. As for visibility, I'd argue that the full-width tab bar mostly "buys time"; given enough tabs, you'll run out of space anyway. A full-width tab bar delays that a bit. I'd still vote for a qualitatively better (in my opinion) overall layout at the expense of a bit of quantity (tab bar space). Also, personally, the tabs above the sidebar are already somewhat "invisible" to me, because I don't expect to find them there. My eyes usually follow the gutter upwards, and then skim to the right across the tabs, so subjectively speaking, the full-width tab bar doesn't help visibility. best - daniel p.s.
