Same here. German keyboard layout (and input source also German). The behavior
is triggered by pressing either the acute accent key ("ยด") or the the caret
("^") key.
I think the Text bundle command "Add Line Numbers to Document" is called, or it
at least results in the same outcome. This command has no keyboard short
assigned, though (i.e. no keyboard shortcut shown next it in the menu).
