*Those of you who have seen the late 1950’s movie, AWARA, will probably agree with me that it was one of the best movies of the time. In those days Hindi movies were very popular not only in India, East Africa, South Africa and other parts of the world where Indians lived but even in countries like the Soviet Union, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and elsewhere where there were hardly any Indians. Raj Kapoor’s movies were especially big hits in those countries. The video in the following link is from Romania where, I believe, there is a fairly large population of gypsies whose origins were in India. The name of the singer in this video is, believe it or not, Rukmini and the name of one of the dancers’ name is Krishna. Besides the awara hoon song you can also find other “Hindi” songs in the link.* ** *Rukmini has a very good voice!* ** *Turn up your speakers, click open the link (see below) and enjoy!* * * * [image: YouTube] <http://www.youtube.com/>
Friends: Please forgive their attire, but the lead Romanian girls, right down to their Indian names, should make the spirits of Raj Kapoor and Mukesh proud in the melodious way they are rendering Awaara (Vagabond) in their own language. You may recall that Awaara once was a rage in the former Soviet Union and Easter Europe.--VCM. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkAwSReSa7s&feature=email> krishna & rukmini - esti vagabond<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkAwSReSa7s&feature=email> romania *
