Happy Friendship Day !
For some people friendship is everything and every person has some view about
friendship. A famous quote by Anais Nin says: “Each friend represents a world
in
us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting
that a new world is born.”
Friendship day is the day of celebrations of the most warm feelings of the
heart: Friendship. It is celebrated on the first Sunday of August every year.
Friendship day 2010 is on 1st of August.
It was in 1935 when the idea of dedicating a day in honor of friends was
conceived. US Congress proclaimed that there should be some day dedicated to
friendship. They chose it to be the first Sunday of August. This charming idea
was joyfully accepted by several other countries across the world. Since then
friendship day has become an annual day for reflecting on sacred feeling of
friendship.
Here are a few interesting facts about the International Friendship day:
* The United Nations named Winnie the Pooh as the world’s Ambassador of
Friendship in 1997.
* Women’s Friendship Day is on the 3rd Sunday of September. So, dear
girls, do
not forget to celebrate this special day.
* International Friendship month is February.
* The 3rd week of May is called Old friends, New friends week.
* Dia del Amigo is Spanish Friendship day that is celebrated every year
on July
20.
