The event was cosponsored by the consulate general of India Honorable Mrs. Mukta Dutta Tomar with the support of several Indian-American businesses.* *Speakers talked of how the victory signified not only a triumph in the sport world but also India’s rise as a rising global power. Consul General Honorable Mrs. Mukta Tomar said the happiness and the enthusiasm of the guests was evidence that India’s accomplishment was not just celebrated in the country but the world over. Earlier in 1983 India also won the world cup. Honorable Mrs. Mukta Tomar said that in 1983, she was Indian consulate in Bangladesh Dhaka. At that time she has an opportunity to meet Indian cricket team. At that time she personally conversed with now caption of our team, Mr. Mahindra sing Dhoni. This time Honorable Mrs. Mukta Tomar was very pleasing and accommodating conversing freely with audience. Also in this event as she went to each table talk to people and took pictures with them. Most of the times when everyday people meet celebrities like her, they cannot talk to them very effortlessly. However her grace, pleasing manners and congeniality t proved that Honorable Mrs. Mukta Tomar is different and has very great feeling for people of our community. Her doors are always open not only for prominent business men and community leader, but all the people.* *Honorable Mrs. Mukta Tomar assumed charge as Consul General of India in Chicago in August 2010. Earlier she was Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh from 2007 to 2010. Since her joining the Indian Foreign Service, Mrs. Mukta D. Tomar has held diplomatic assignments in Indian Embassies in Madrid, Kathmandu, Paris, and Yangon. Mrs. Tomar has also served at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations at New York. In the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, Mrs. Tomar worked in the Americas Division. She has also headed the Investment & Technology Promotion & Economic Division in the Ministry. Mrs. Mukta D. Tomar is a Graduate of Kolkata University. She is married to Mr. Ashok Tomar, also a career diplomat.* *The Consulate Team members, Heena Mehta, Heena Dixit, Dhara Rawal, Radhika Sethuraman, Neelima Varanasi, Kinnari Shah, Renuka Jain, Sabukan, Mrs. Sapkal, Manju Cresto and Vishwas Sapkal along with other team members were present to celebrate this occasion.* *Balvinder Singh replied to Asian Media USA’s Chairman Mr. Suresh Bodiwala question as to the reason for organizing this festivity in such short time? He explained that he first called consultant general Honorable Mrs. Mukta Tomar and found out what time she is available for the celebration. Mrs. Tomar with excitement in her voice said that “Any time, anywhere”! Subsequently with help of Mrs. Fouzia khan support wheels of event were mobilized. Balwinder is a well known community leader, activist, successful businessman and person with “Midas Touch” to pick and support a winner in almost every election. For example he held very first fundraiser for than candidate and now president Obama at his private banquet hall in Chicago. At that time Obama was sparsely known by general public with remote chance of winning presidential nomination. Due to this incredible ability he is also called “King Maker” in our community. He is also a diehard supporter of the cricket.* *Vandana Jhingan, Beauro chief of Chicago TV Asia, stated that the advancement in technology in media brings the world together and made this event far more special and exciting than one in 1983. Further she lauded the Indian cricket team for its outstanding performance in deafiting arch rival Pakistan and Shri Lanka. Vandana expressed a desire to see Indians excel in all sports, including baseball and win majority of Medals in Olympics.* *Another prominent Indian, Mr. Naren Patel, renowned philanthropist and Owner of Medstar Laboratory stated that like Vandnaji, he also has the same aspiration that we should have more events like this and celebrate it as a family event of Indian diasporas. Such event celebration will bring lot of harmony in Indian community and we will become part of big family.* *Shaila Khedkar is professional singer and hails from musical family of parents and siblings who has been also well known singers in India. She continues the tradition here. She was trained in light classical music in Baroda, Gujarat where she has been performing in school and college functions and awarded "Koyal of Maharani H.S." on her graduation. Music gives her piece of mind and makes her feel good that she gives happiness to so many people with her music. She has been performing in Chicago and out of state with well known artists and groups from India and USA for various social functions and like to share her God given gift to raise funds for good cause whenever she can. She considers Lata Ji and Asha Ji her idols and very well known for rendering Lataji's and Asha Ji's songs and gets lot of compliments from her audience. She also enjoys singing new fast numbers as well. Recently, she was awarded "Versatile Singer" Award at MAAC function held on Oct 2, 2010 at India House.She performs on Karaoke and with live band and sings Guajarati Geet, garba, wedding songs, old and new songs, Marathi’s Bahvgeet, ghazals and bhajans. * *Singers Saif Ali, Sahil Dhabhatti and Sheila Khedkar contributed to the atmosphere of festivity by singing appropriate popular patriotic songs. Saif Ali originally from Hyderabad, India, is a professional sound engineer and exceptionally first-rate singer. Currently he owns the successful business of studio, performing photography and functioning as a videographer. Sahil Dhabhatti hails from Rajasthan, India. He has been a talented singer since childhood. He grew up singing in schools, colleges and private events. He came to the United States in 1981. Like Saif Ali and Sheila Khedkar, he specializes in singing old vintage and new hits.
