A1 Dhanushkodi is an abandoned town,which is located on the southeastern end of Pamban Island in Tamilnadu. In 1964 this town was hit by acyclone due to which only some ruins of the town are left. In thiscyclone, around 1800 people died including 115 passengers who were traveling bytrain. After this incident, Dhanushkodi was declared a ghost town and unsafefor living by the government. Dhanushkodi is saidto be the place where Lord Rama had ordered to build Ram Setu to reach Lanka. Being the only land borderbetween India & Srilanka Dhanushkodi was famous for trading business beforethe cyclone. But in recent days, only a small number of fisherfamilies are found in Dhanushkodi. Dhanushkodi is a mustvisit for the beach lovers. It has one of the cleanest beaches in India, It isalso known as “Arichal Munai" in Tamil by the inhabitants of Dhanushkodi.The view of the beach is so captivating that it soothes the mind and one canspend hours by the shore. Kothandaramaswamy Temple is one of the oldesttemple which is around 1000 years old in Dhanushkodi. It is the only buildingwhich survived the disastrous cyclone. According to the ancestors, this is theplace where Vibhishana had joined hands with Lord Rama to defeat Ravana andalso Vibhishana was crowned as the next king of Lanka in this place. Here onecan see the idol of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman and Vibhishana. My note- Recently I read a news itemsouthern railway is starting to lay the rails and establish again Dhanushkoti Railway station.I have visited the beach two times.
