Q1         Why is Lord Vishnu always representedas a rich person having a lot
of gold ornaments but Shiva as a saint onlycovered with ashes?

A1          Sunitha Parapatla· November20 Devotee of God Shiva and a Home maker

Shri Vishnu who is the operatorof this Universe is Alankara_priya, which means
He loves to be groomed with expensive clothes andornaments, and He isSrinivasa,
which means Sri, Goddess Lakshmi His consort, the prosperityprovider to all
resides in His heart.

But Shiva is the Adi Yogi, detached from this worldlyaffairs and is an Ascetic.
So, Shiva doesn't like to wear any expensive jewelleryor fine clothes. He
prefers asimple, down to earth living.

Since the ultimate truth of all mortals life is ash, that is why Hesmears ash
on his body.

Shiva's world starts from thepoint where our mortal’s life ends, that is Rudra
Kshetra , the burial ground. Shiva is the Smashana natha, the God for the
Burialground.

Shiva doesn't give importanceto this perishable physical body, so doesn't like
to get carried away in theworldly affairs, thus Shivais Digambaraaya ( who is
naked or clothed as sky ) .

Shiva wears snake as ornament, thus showing fearlessness. And saving
hisdevotees by taking away their weaknesses.

Shiva wears a garland of Skulls.

Shiva is the destroyer of all Desires/evil and lust, so He is beyond
anydesires. Thus prefers to stay in the cemetery.

Shiva gives us all theamenities, luxuries and He sleeps in the Burial ground,
as a sacrificingfather.

Shiva meditates sitting on the tiger skin, this showing his victory overthe
animal instincts.

Shiva is the Jagadaika poshana, meaning He is the food provider for allthe
living beings. And His hunger is subsided by just three morsel of foodserved by
His wife as Annapurna.

Shiva dissolves everyone and everything into Him, thus paving the way fora new
beginning.

Two lines from Kalabhairava Ashtakam ::

Which means : Who destroys the pride of death / fear of death present inus, and
whose Rudra form liberates us / from the fear of death..

Karma - Paasha- Mochakam Su - Sharma- Daayakam Vibhum

The God Who frees us from the clutches of Karma, there by giving us greatjoy,
the ultimate bliss.

Q2         What are common mistakes to avoid tomake delicious upma?

A2          Bhuvana Rameshwar Fri Smartcook, not hardworking

For all those who hate upma… read this and think, try it out and thendecide
otherwise.

A good upma comes from thefollowing

Use only coarse wheat semolina or rava. Avoid chiroti rava, the finer onefor
plain upma, veg upma, rava pongal.

Dry roast rava say one kg on sim flame and store when cool. Use this forupma
making.

I take rava - water in the ratioof 1cup rava : 2and half cups water.

Boil water as you start making the upma.

Mix in rava after mustard, red chillies, urad dhal, channa dhal are friedwell
but onions, curry leaves, green chillies added next are half fried. Onions
should be translucent notfried brown .

Now add rava, enough salt add mix with the onion mix. Then add hot waterslowly
and keep mixing so no lumps are formed.

Then sim the flame, cover thevessel and cook for 15 minutes, occasionally
stirring. A good upma is semisolid, not sticky to touch.

When rava is cooked add sometbsps of oil or vanaspati, mix and immediately off
the flame. Cover and leavefor 5 to 7 mins.

Garnish with fresh cut corianderleaves. Serve with spicy chutney as upma isn't
very spicy.

Upma is one of the tastiest toeat and easiest of dishes to make if done well.

Q3         Why did Lord Ram speak angrily to thegoddess Sita after he killed
Ravana?

A3          Tarun Yadav Thu Haveread Gita Press and critical edition of Valmiki
Ramayan

This is how sage Valmiki has described the feelings of Sri Rama after heheard
of Devi Sita's arrival -

On hearing that she hadarrived, Raghava was filled with all three of joy,
misery and rage.

He was joyful because he was seeing his beloved after a very long time. He was
miserable because he knewthat the society will look upon Devi Sita as an
unfaithful wife. Because of his misery, he was filled with rage. Please note
that hisrage was not against Devi Sita. It was against the society which he
vented offon Devi Sita.

Sri Rama knew it very well that on hearing his harsh words, Devi Sitawill
herself prove to this society that she has remained faithful. And that iswhat
exactly happened. She asked Lakshmana to prepare a funeral pyre forherself.
Then she entered the pyre but was unharmed. Agni himself brought herout of that
pyre and declared her purity and chastity.

Then Sri Rama himself told Agni that he let this event happen to persuadethe
world. He himself told thatRavana was not able to approach Devi Sita. He
himself told that Devi Sita isinseparable from him. This is how Valmiki has
narrated this conversation -

I know that Maithilee, Janaka’s daughter, is single-mindedly devoted tome and
that her mind is only on me. However, I am devotedto the truth. For the sake of
persuading the three worlds, I ignored Vaidehiwhen she entered the fire. This
large-eyed one was protected through herown energy and Ravana could not violate
her, just as the great ocean does notcross the shoreline. The extremely
evil-souled one was unable to approachMaithilee even in his thoughts. She was
like the blazing flames of the fire andthere was no question of his approaching
and oppressing her. The auspicious onedid not consider the prosperity in
Ravana’s inner quarters. Just as the sun is not separate from its radiance,
Sita is notseparate from me.

Valmiki Ramayana.

Q4         What are the day-to-day benefit ofreading Vishnu Sahasranamam?

A4          Ananth S April 15 Studentat Vikaasa School

I didn't know about Vishnu Sahasranamam existence and I was chanting OnNamo
Narayana since my 13 years of age. Just a year Back I had the chance tostart
chanting Vishnu Sahasranamam.

Everyday even I was busy or out in the shopping malls I would run off tohome
before 4:30. I would start my routing at 5P.M. I just kept a wish. I want
everyone to be safeand I want my normal health back.

I'm a FOP (Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva) patient. This is a rarerare
genetic disease making my tissues into hard bones. To tell in simple forms, I
have two skeletonsinstead of one. I was praying every day.

I had also visited Ayurveda clinics and hospitals. I visited Kottakal,The Arya
Vaidya Sala. They said that I should go to Kerala and get admitted inthe
hospital there. As I was 13 my parents didn't take that decision and theyleft
trying to cure my disease in Ayurveda style.

Past week I had got the chanceto visit the Ayurveda clinic once again. I had no
hope this time. I thought,” Anyways if it rained or it was hot weather
thedoctor is going to tell there is no cure for this disease for which in turn
heis going to give some medicines for no use". I was just thinking of Vishnu.
My turn of appointmentcame and I met the doctor. To my surprise I saw Lord
Vishnu's idol therein the doctors cabin. I came to know he was a devotee of
him. What acoincidence 🙈❤️🙏.

Huge joy raised in me (inside) and I was like a butterfly flying here andthere.
He showed much love in me and spoke in sweet words. He gave me more strength to
winmy life taking disease. Now I'm not losing hope. It made me one year to
getthis huge success. AndI got mini successes here and there after starting the
chanting.

The Only thing I say is. If you wanted to do any work, Please execute itin the
same time of thought or decision for which in turn only you would bebenefited.
I don't mean think it of you. Think for others, worry for others andpray for
others in your prayer too. You'll enjoy the benefits later.Don't losehope in
you and in him.

Q6         If given a choice, which Indian cuisinewould you eat every day?

A6          Anand Gupta UpdatedAugust 4, 2020 Lives in India

I am a North Indian living in Mumbai for a pretty long time. I have travelledto
almost all nooks and corners of the country. If I am asked what Indian cuisine
I can eat everyday, my unequivocal answer will be a typical Tamilian/ Andhra
meal.

South Indian lunch ( Sappadu) is my sin food. Whenever I am in
Chennai,Coimbatore or Bangalore, I never miss daily to go to a typical
traditionalSouth Indian restaurant to have this type meal. Suddenly my appetite
becomes 5Xof my regular appetite :). I will take at least two servings of rice
withSambhar, Rasam and one each with Aviyal, Poriyal and Keera Kootu.

The beauty of a typical SouthIndian meal is the variety: Variyal and Aviyal can
be cooked in 100s of different ways and each one is better than theformer :).
So is true with Sambhar too! The different pickles and Chutneys havetheir own
importance and each has a different flavour and taste. I have neverbeen
disappointed with this meal, be it at a high end hotel or a mid size one.

Other than Sappadu, I love PodiIdli. Once I discovered Podi Idli, plain idli
seems to me a fraud played on mankind! Why it tastes so good- may beits ghee,
may be it's gunpowder, may be steamed idli gels with gunpowder in aunique way -
idk. What I know is that I can eat ten of them in one sitting.

I must have been a Tamilian inmy previous birth who had died gorging this sin
food:).

Q7         Why are trucks with goods loaded onwagons in the Konkan railway? Why
can't the trucks go by road?

A7          Sumeet Badgujar 23h ago Justa Traveller Through Time

It's not that trucks can't go byroad, it's just that train transport has many
benefits overroad.

What is the service called?

RO-RO (Roll-on Roll-off) service. Started on January 26 in 1999.

Services Length and Path?

Between Kolad and Verna (a distance of 417 km),

Between Kolad and Surathkal (a distance of 721 km).

Roads vs Railway

Bottlenecks

The National Highway passesthrough many such towns, which slows down the
trucks. Railway has no suchbottlenecks.

Route Length-Railway goesstraight as it can.

Ghat section -Highway hasghat sections at many points.Railwayshas tunnels that
just cuts through mountains.

Time taken-For Kolad-Verna, train time period is 12 hrs, whereas by roadit
takes 24 hours.

For Kolad-Surathkal, train time period is 22 hrs, whereas by road ittakes 40
hours.

Road condition

Imagine the road conditions in the year 1999 and earlier than that, itwas a
mess. Moreover it was a single lane highway. The Highway is being widenedby
making it double lane and straightening out, wherever possible.

When offered a better alternative option, a RO-RO service, many truckersopted
for it.

My note- Also the strain onthe drivers is very much reduced.

Q8         What will happen if I didn't drinkwater for 3 days but eat food?

A8          Devendra Saini, formerPharmaceutical Professional at Dr. Reddy's
Laboratories (1990-1996)Answered Fri

You can't live without waterfor 3 days. When someone iseating food, the
digestive system asks for water to fulfil the requirements ofbody and digestion
itself. May be you are taking food which contains good quantity of water.
