ENTHUPATTI SAMI? (WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?) Dear Friends,
These are some of my thinking. Othersmay have different views. Many items told refers to Kerala culture. Whereas the first Malayalam novel INDULEKHA of late O.CHANDU MENON made a hit, his other novels like Kundalatha did not get that appreciation. Whereas Novel MARTHANDA VARMA of late CV RAMAN PILLAI became famous,either Dharmaraja or Ramaraja bahadoor could not gain that much popularity. Whereas CHEMMEEN became success of Late THAKAZHI SIVA SANKARAPILLAI, either Randitangazhi or kayar could not get that fame. Whereas his screen play for MURAPENNU has become a hit, novelNalukettu got awards, and VADAKKANVEERAGATHA became fame, that much fame could not be achieved forOlavum theeravum, parinayam, oppol etc. of Sri MT VASUDEVAN NAIR. I have seen the film MURAPPENNU first time in 1964,and later many times in theatres and TV, Still the conversations and Lyrics are intongue. Ever green in memoryare the beautiful songs like- 1) Kadavatthu thoni adutthappol pennintae, Kavilatthu mazhavillin Nizhalattum.. Kavilathu mazhavillin Nizhalattam. 2) Karayunnu puzha chirikkunnu. Kannerum olippichhu kaivazhikal piriyumpol Karayunnu puzha chirikkunnu… (Sorry- I am not translating, the beauty of the lyric mayvanish.) Late Professor RAJALEKSHMY was my lecturer in Physics whileI went to NSS College Pandalam in 1960.Her novel ORUVAZHIYUMKURAE NIZHALUKALUM was most popular novel. Novel by Rajalakshmi. Oru Vazhiyum Kure Nizhalukalum won her KeralaSahitya Akademi Award for the best novel in 1960. ‘രാജലക്ഷ്മി ജീവിതത്തെ തിക്തതയോടെവീക്ഷിച്ച കാഥികയല്ല. അവരുടെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളും ജീവിതത്തെ സ്നേഹിച്ചവരാണ്. ഏകാന്തതയുടെമരുപ്പരപ്പിലെ യാത്രക്കാരായ അവരുടെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെല്ലാം മരുപ്പച്ച തേടിക്കൊണ്ട് മൃഗതൃഷ്ണയില്നിന്ന്മൃഗ തൃഷ്ണയിലേക്ക്സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നവരാണ്. ഈ കാഥികയ്ക്ക് സാഹിത്യസൃഷ്ടി തന്നെയായിരുന്നു ജീവിതം. ജീവിതത്തോട് പകവീട്ടാന്വേണ്ടി സാഹിത്യം രചിക്കു-കയായിരുന്നില്ല എന്നര്ത്ഥം.’ -എം.ടി. വാസുദേവന് നായര് Her fame was as a writer not as Professor/ lecturer. But her laterworks “Jnan enna bhavam” or “uchaveyilum ilam nilavum” were not so much popular. I recollect expressing our enjoyment of the novel,obtaining it from local library and her smile for young admirers in the staffroom. Even for vacation she used toremain sometimes in the hostel and write. I could recollect only with sorrow her departure from worldin 1965 while she was professor of physics at Ottapalam N SS College. My friend Late S S Mani was lecturer inchemistry in the college during the period. Whereas our dear Perinkulam’s ANNAMMA COULD BE EVER GREEN,it need not be so much with his other characters. Annamma appeared to me in allrespects my school mate. In all respects could be understood by him only if heread this posting. Beforea few years Sivam Perinkulam was live in the groups. While this is the case what about Gopala Krishnan’spostings? Still I recollect one of the member’s recent response,“Enthupatti sami, ippol ellam keeralum murikkalum aanallo… “- byanother sami. Really I enjoyed that response. I replied to him in short about” Arampattal” can be one of the reasons. … Really I enjoyed ANOTHER SAMI… During recent times two person used the word were Sreekumaran thampi,producer, writer, lyrist and director. He appears some times in interviews inDoordarsan channel and award functions. Another late Kunjunni Mash. He wrote for smallchildren and his lyrics were called kunjunni Kavithakal. When an interviewerasked a few years before why he does not write now he too used Arampataal-Nothing comes from the heart to write. Recently I received an appreciation response from one ofthe lady members about “KAYYETTHU DOORATHORU KUTTIKKALUM” But all posting neednot be like “…..KUTTIKKALAM”. My note now- It is a reposting with editing.Recently I received a lot of appreciation for Malini and Vaisali. But all posting need not be like “KUTTIKKALAM” and Malini. My many re-postings or re-written are read and responded asnew one, it need not be with all. Somecultural QA are responded, some are least responded. My note now - I recollect on reading one ofthe members response one month back or so - Did you exhaust all your stock to repost. Another member asked- You are writing only aboutKerala items, but youare in Tamilnadu for 18 years after retirement. I have wrote a loton Tamilnadu culture also. Arampattal has notcome to me.
