CONQUERING SELF RENE DESCARTES

1 “My third maxim was to *endeavour* always to *conquer myself*
rather *than
fortune,* and *change my desires rather than the order of the world,* and
in general, accustom myself to the persuasion that, *except our own
thoughts, there is nothing absolutely in our power;* so that when we have
done our best in things external to us, all wherein we fail of success is
to be held, as regards us, absolutely impossible: and this single principle
seemed to me sufficient to prevent me from desiring for the future anything
which I could not obtain, and thus render me contented”

2 What was the success f Descartes?. 1 In *1637*, the *Discourse
on the Method* by Rene Descartes was published. The book was divided into
six parts: considerations to understand natural sciences *”* This *method
of skepticism* is *considered to be the start of modern philosophy*. #2
Descartes asserted that the very act of doubting one’s own existence
served, at minimum, as proof of the reality of one’s own mind; there must
be a thinking entity, in this case the self, for there to be a thought.
#3 He thus *invented the Cartesian coordinate system*, which forms
the *foundation
of analytic geometry*. #4 Analytic geometry is by far *Descartes’ most
important contribution to mathematics*. He is *widely considered as the
father of analytic geometry*. #5 Rene Descartes *independently discovered
the general formula for amicable numbers.* This formula is known as *Thabit
ibn Qurra’s formula*, after an Arab mathematician who discovered it several
centuries before Descartes. #6 Development of modern physics.; the *first
distinctly modern formulation of laws of nature*. His first law states *“that
each thing always remains in the same state; and consequently, when it is
once moved, it always continues to move”* while his second law holds that *“all
movement is, of itself, along straight lines”*. These two laws of Descartes
were later incorporated into *Newton’s first law of motion*. #7 In *1641*,
philosophical treatise by Rene Descartes titled *Meditations on First
Philosophy*, was published. The book contains *six meditations*. #8. Rene
Descartes was the *first *modern version of mind-body dualism known as
*Cartesian
dualism*. #9 *Epistemology* is a branch of philosophy concerned with the
nature of *knowledge; t*he *regress argument* is a problem in epistemology
*Foundationalism* is a theory which responds to the regress problem by
asserting that certain *“foundations”* or *“basic beliefs”* support other
beliefs but do not themselves require justification from other beliefs. #10
Descartes refused to accept the authority of previous philosophers. He went
on so far as to state that he will write on this topic *“as if no one had
written on these matters before”*. Descartes laid the foundations for
*rationalism*, the philosophical view that *“regards reason as the chief
source and test of knowledge”*. All in 34 years between 1616 to 1650.

3 Were there any one or more in India who did this much or more
without any proper infra-structure or proper communication basis? Whatever
he found were not found before in any part of the earth earlier? I am not
going to discuss but you will analyse. Cartesian duality was here even
before or at least since 1000 AD from Ramanujar and Madwa periods.
Rationalism existed since Charawaka of the Ramayanam time. And they never
thought tat they had a success. Mathematics was here all that Descartes
said to have done even before 1600 AD. And what was the self as defined by
our successors?

4 Endeavour is the human traits; BG preaches it as action; self
cannot be conquered but the ego-self can-it-be conquered? 2.63 B G explains
how the Ego fails and success is a mirage. Nishkamya karma is the success
to safeguard the self. Desire can be changed but desires grow; our own
thoughts are detrimental to us. Our thoughts create shankarism,
Ramanujayism, Buddhism etc bit truth is far from the latter in which case,
our thoughts are karmic; success is transferable; passing of the gifts from
one to one; and Descartes did with all his findings what few mediocre did
in this land only. So, his theory did not usher in any rationalism in
majority also. The cooking of the pudding is in the eating hence variables
from time to time and place to place to person to person. Hence Descartes
theory is unproven.

5 We had ashtavadhaani, shataavadhani etc who can do multi-tasks at
a time; our women and men folks do like that weaver; drawing the priority
according to the needs is the faster ways to do multi-taskings; it is not
done as a formula or in a day; the mind is trained towards the task and
when 10 tasks are trained by habits, mind computes correctly; but all
those avadhanis are not in the History; but a person in 32 years could
accomplish thro walking across India became a history and was feared by the
west whose period was altered; and another great Buddha who lived for 80
years could spread a religion where Descartes lived. The Indian history was
twisted by reducing 1200 years in the history starting from Buddaha . Time
management is an art trained thro the Mind over a period. Priorities are
altered according to the needs. 24 by 7 is for all; but only the leads
succeed in managing the time and for that one important factor is
absorption speed which is karmic.
