1. Naga worship

Nagaworship varies in different states. In Tamilnadu there are a number of
puttu kovils. In the idol from it is worshipped at Nagerkovil, Tirunageswaram
etc. At Nagerkovilit is the sand coming from the bottom of the idol is given as
prasadam. AtThirunageswaram, it is abishekam with milk is very important during
rahukalam, wherethe idol changes to blue colour during abhishekam.

InKerala instead of puttu it is medium forest is seen at Mannarsala, very
small forestand muddy lake area at Ameda etc. In Kerala temple use of turmeric
paste andpowder is common with worshiping of Naga idols. Even prasadam sandal
paste iscombined with turmeric.

Whileworshipping in naga temples very much purity in body and mind is
important. It is knownto all. Purity of body for at least 7 days for women is
very much specific forsarpabali at Ameda

Inall Naga temples, the worship on Aayilyam day is important in all
months.Worship is done for sarpa dosha in Naga temples.  Some temples like
Ameda in Kerala conductSarpa Bali. ( Sraadha to sarpa). Normally people conduct
sarpabali on advice bydivine people, astrologers etc.

2. Naga temple at Kengery

Ihad no fortune to visit  any sarpa templeearlier in Karnataka. So combined
with divine thoughts after seeing the TVProgram, my mind was with thoughts how
a Naga temple would appear in Karnatakadifferentiating itself .

Wecannot compare one naga temple  withother. Each has its own uniqueness. One
CANNOT EXCEL the other. Each has itsown merits.

2a Swarna Ganapathi

ThisMukthi  Naga temple is at 18thKilometre in the MYSORE ROUTE from Bangalore
city railway station.  Just about half a kilometre before a large  SWARNA
GANAPATHI gives darsan and blesses us.It is a separate temple on the left side
while coming from Bangalore.

2b. How to reach the temple

Thereis a right turn at the Junction of Rajarajeswari dental college point. We
haveto drive for 5 KMs again  in the route, where a board would  indicate the
way totemple again taking a 2nd right turn to reach the temple.

Theroad will end up in   grassy up, a preferable area of snakes to live, and
about one Kilometre to reach thetemple premises. The temple is in a plane open
area. There are no compoundwalls, no borders for the Nagaraja temple here.
Vehicles can reach somewhatnear the temple.

Addressand phone number of the temple I have given in the end.

2c. Darsan timings

Similarto Kadampuzha temple  in Kerala, thetemple worshipping time is from
7.30 AM to 7.30 PM only. It is continuous here.

3. Other deities enshrined nearby.

Inthe complex three more deities are enshrined with separate sanctum. One is
Mahaganapathi,   anotheris lord Muruga and third is Vana durga.

Theorder of worship told is to start with is Maha Ganapathi. The idol of
Ganapathiis big. After worshipping Mahaganapathi we are asked to worship FIVE
HEADEDNAGA VERY BIG IN SIZE. This naga is to be worshipped before worshiping
anothernaga smaller and five headed and called MOOLA STHANAM. This moola sthana
naga is the main deity of thetemple.

 4. Worship of Moola sthana deity.

Theemphasis told in the temple to circumambulation the small sanctum 9 times
afterperforming sankalpa by the priest.

Fromthe administrative office we can purchase a silver naga idol for Rs 50-00
andhold in the right  hand.

Thepriest in the temple issue a samkalpa ticket and recites the samkalpa
takingour name, star, gothra for well being while we worship the Mukthi naga
anddirect us to perform 9 circumambulations around the sanctum keeping Nagaraja
inhand and then place in  a hundi in thefront with prayers.

Itis affirmed we would  get blessing ofNagaraja. Yes. Nagaraja is Rahu and
Kshipra prasadi to tell in one sentence.

Thepriest leisurely collects Rs 11-00 for the samkapla ticket, and includes
allthe names told by us. There is no restriction about the number of persons.
Even without naga samkalpam can be done andprayers offered.

Iam not sure either due to early evening or for any other reason, I could
notfind any person distributing any prasadam. Probably it might be a
peculiaritywith the temple.

5. Vana durga

Somewhatin an angle of 30’ is the vana durga shrine. About 15 feet from it
somewhat  middle between the temples is the manputtuwhich attracted me very
much. There is only one puttu in the premises.

 6. Man puttu

Itis very surprising in the greenish grass area a medium manputtu appearing as
SPRANG UP. Prayers are offered to thismanputtu.

 7. Nagaraja and Naga yakshies

Asin the Kerala temples there is a separate idol of Nagaraja with two
nagayakshisclose to Vanadurga and prayers are offered here also. There is no
sanctum  for them.

 8. Arrangements of naga idols

Thereis an existing Nagraja and Nagarani placement in a vertical triangular
formnear it in steps which attracts every person. Hundreds of naga idols  are
systematically arranged in steps in triangularfrom.

Allidols are  in black granite  and oiled and giving a shiny appearance.

9. Tall muruga

Finallywe complete the worship before the  bigMuruga at a height  climbing  a
separate platform.

 10. Beliefs with the temple

Inthe Sun TV divya darshanm, many people have told their experiences
ofaccomplishing and solving different problems by worshipping in the temple.

AllNaga temples are unique and sincere prayers with belief are ALWAYS  FULL
FILLED. Astrologers suggest  in many occasions for Naga worship to the
personsapproaching them for various reasons

 11. Temple address

Ihave visited the temple on Saturday evening. At that time itself there about
10quails type vehicles waiting  bringingdevotes . It is best to go by car or
taxi/Auto to temple

Iam told procedure for  worship is -purchasing the naga, offer samkapa with
prayer, make nine circumambulations, with prayer holding naga, and put the naga
idol in the hundial.

Whilereturning after worshiping the temple  Iwas telling my wife and daughter
and her  son who accompanied me, it was a unique divinedarsan some thing
peculiar to Karnataka and gave me much mental satisfaction.

Iam giving below the address and phone number for the convenience of
membersdesiring to visit the temple.

Asincere prayer would always be fulfilled in the temple by aspiring devotees.
Thename of the temple itself is Mukthi naga kshethra.
