Dear friends, Today I went to nearby bag shopto purchase a new purse. Reason- my purse purchased two years ago got damaged slightlywhile pulling the zip to open the emergency folder. Fortunately I got a qualitypurse with zip in desired colour. Most quality purses in leather come withoutzip folder. He placed it in attractive compliment pack. Earlier lady’s purse came smaller and in different colours.Now for keeping credit/debit cards, size of lady’s purses are made larger. Most women keep money pursein an inner zip folder of their hand bag. Number of zip folders in a bag ismore nowadays and money for immediate transactions is kept in a zip folder, andnot in the purse. In bag shops plastic purses come in the range of 50-80 rupees, sponge leatherfrom Rs 150- 250 and leather pursesabove Rs 350-00 in Chennai 3. Money purse kept within fine finish box. Nowadays costly money purses above350-00 rupees are kept in a fine finish hardboard box and given from shops. Ithas become a fashion to compliment quality purses with money during birthdays,wedding etc. Really, no one can throw out the outer box. Most may use it forkeeping something else. That much sturdy and attractive boxes. 4 Purse or money purse There are many meanings for theword purse. People also ask-What does money purse mean? 1: a bag or pouch for money. 2:handbag. 3: the amount of money that a person, organization, or government hasavailable for use. 4: a sum of money offered as a prize or collected as apresent. Out of this, in this posting Irefer only to the first and second meanings. The information told in the firsttwo paragraphs referred to pouch. I am continuing with pouch and bag meanings. 5. Purses with/without zip Purses with zip are convenient tokeep important items. One is emergency cash. Nowadays purses come with more foldersmaking it convenient to keep many things. Now id photos and self/ wife addressand phone numbers are essentially kept in money purse in the smaller folders.Small changes are also kept in a small provision within the purse. On those days many items likeaddress, phone number etc were kept in the purse for reference. Currency and coinskept in another folder. While travelling in buses and trains to keep ticketstill the end of journey purse was used and more care was given to purse. Many keep small pictureof Lord Ganesha, Muruga, Anjneya, Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswthi or Lord Saturn etc. in the purse Now with hand bags, many aretransferred to the hand bag rather than keeping in purse. Most keep small amountof money in purse and more amount in handbag. Most interesting- Handbags and shoulder cum handbags comes with warranty from big bag shops 6. Theft of purse. Theft of purse is common while enteringcrowded buses keeping purse in shirt pocket, travelling in crowded buses,taking nap in buses and trains, keeping money in back pocket of pants etc. Tailors have come up withfeatures of inner pocket for shirts, pants side pocket with inner pockets etc.to avoid thefts. For women inner pockets are stitched in skirts with zip tolock enabling carrying more money safely. 7 Purses of current days The purses now available havingnumber of small and large folders. Large folders are used to keep currency without folding.Small folders to keep photo, id copy, one or two debit cards while going tonearby shops wearing dhoti etc. With covid 19 many shops prefer card payments. This includessmall vegetable and fruit shops. 8 Shoulder bag and hand bag. Ladies bag of the same size ofgent’s hand bag might have shoulder straps. Gents shoulder bag can be carriedas hand bags also. Now gents hand bags also comeswith more folders like ladies hand bag. This makes it convenient to keep smallpurchase bag, costly and fragile medicines like insulin refill pack, mobilephone etc. inside. I learnt recently the refill pack is not priced very lesscomparing to insulin pen of solostar make. 9. Shoulder hand bag has replaced brief case. For small journeys and localtrips with more items a large shoulder /hand bag is more convenient. Withdifferent folders and folders wit zip, and comparatively less weight than briefcase, these shoulder bags are more convenient. Many are made of water resistantouter covering cloth over plastic/pvc cover. One or two days dresses, essentialitems like medicines, and personal toilet items, compliments, food items,important papers etc. can be safely carried in shoulder cum carried hand bag.Small ipads, iphones, smart phones and light weight laptops can be carried inthem. I understand brief cases have lesser sales now. 10. Post office gesture If any person finds a lost purseand put it in post box, the post office would deliver if address is there tocorrect persons on a small charge on delivery. Good persons on finding pursesfall on road etc do so, and lost purse with all documents and lost money is obtained.Sometimes the documents may be more important than money. Some thieves also nowadays do soinstead of throwing in sides of roads. A positive trend with thieves. 11. Postman shoulder bag One week back my area postmancame in his bike. He came to deliver new passport of my grandson. He was wearinga shoulder bag with many folders. Earlier postmen were having cloth bags with folders.But no zip arrangement. He opened an inner folder which had zip. He took thepassport cover and verified details and identity and gave the passport after gettinggrandson’s signature. His black colour shoulder bag attracted me. It was acloudy day. He was wearing cap.
