temples are there?

A1Do not wonder .There are394 temples in 43 states in the USA

Q2 What is the meaning of Atharva veda?

A2 Thefourth veda is the Atharvaveda. The meaning of the word Atharveda

fickleness ormovement and accordingly the word "Atharva" means that which is
unwavering, concentrated orunchanging.

Q3What do Atharva veda speak  about?

A3 The Atharvaveda speaks more aboutYoga, the human physiology, different
ailments, social structure, spirituality, appreciation of natural beauty,
national religion etc. This knowledge ispractical and is worth bringing in use.

Q4 Do Ayur veda is an upaveda of Atharva veda? Can youmake quotes for the same?

A4 TheAtharvaveda is a fusion of prose and poetry together. A number of facts
related to Ayurveda are seenhere, that is why Ayurveda is considered to be the
Upaveda (Sub-Veda) ofthis Veda.

Q5 Who is Arundhatati?

A5 Duringmany traditional Hindu marriages, the presiding priest usually shows
the bride,a star called ‘Arundhathi’ in thenight sky. Sadhwi Arundhathi is the
wife of sage Vasishtha. This famous couple from vedic times, well known for their
harmony and devotion to each other, is revered as a anideal couple worthy of
emulation by all married couples

The starpair Arundhathi-Vasishtha is in the famousconstellation Ursa Major.  It
is alsocalled Big Dipper or Great Bear.  In Indiathis constellation is called
Saptha Rishimandala (Seven Sages)

We haveon Vriddha Garga’s authority that inthe Northern Sky, the Saptha Rishi’s
revolve around Dhruva Nayaka like a necklace.

Q6Who are saptharishies?

A6 From east to west the sapthamuni's Marichi, Vasishtha, Angirasa, Athri,
Pulasthya, Pulaaha and Krathusit. Chaste Arundhathi accompanies sage Vasishtha.

In allprobability ‘Vriddha garga’ is sameas ‘Gargya Rishi’ of Athrvana veda 19
kaanda 6-7 sooktha whosetime was approximately 2400 BC.(Ref 2).

Q7 Can we see Arudhati clearly?

A7 The star Arundhathi is difficult to separate from Vasishta for people with
poor eyesight.

Arundhathi’s brightnessis a fourth magnitude star and is within 0.2 degrees of
Vasishtha, which is twice as bright.

Othercultures of the world also have historically used the keenness of eyesight
todistinguish between the two stars Vasishtha-Arundhathi(Mizar-Alcor) as an
asset.

In USA,which is in the Northern Hemisphere, Ursa Major is easilyvisible most of
the year.

Q13 Answer in a few words about the Vedas-(level of  a xth standard boy)

A13 The Vedais divided into four great books: the Rig-Veda, the Yajur-Veda, the
Sama-Vedaand the Atharva-Veda. The Yajur-Veda is again divided into two parts,
the Suklaand the Krishna. The Krishnaor the Taittiriya is the older book and
the Sukla or the Vajasaneya is a laterrevelation to sage Yajnavalkya from the
resplendent Sun-God.

The Rig-Vedais divided into twenty-one sections, the Yajur-Veda into one
hundred and ninesections, the Sama-Veda into one thousand sections and the
Atharva-Veda intofifty sections. In all, the whole Veda is thus divided into
one thousand onehundred and eighty recensions.1180 recensions

Each Vedaconsists of four parts: the Mantra-Samhitasor hymns, theBrahmanas  or
explanations of Mantras or rituals, the Aranyakas, and the Upanishads. The
division of the Vedas into four parts is to suitthe four stages in a man's life.

The Rig-VedaSamhita is the grandest book of the Hindus, the oldest and the best
Its priestis called the Hotri

The Yajur-VedaSamhita is mostly in prose and is meant to be used by the
Adhvaryu, theYajur-Vedic priest, for superfluous explanations of the rites in
sacrifices,supplementing the Rig-Vedic Mantras

The Sama-VedaSamhita is mostly borrowed from the Rig-Vedic Samhita, and is
meant to be sungby the Udgatri, the Sama Vedic priest, in sacrifices

The Atharva-VedaSamhita is meant to be used by the Brahma, the Atharva-Vedic
priest, tocorrect the mispronunciations and wrong performances that may
accidentally becommitted by the other three priests of the sacrifice. In
summaryHotri-Adhvaryu- Udgatri and Brahma name of the four veda priests.

The Brahmanaportions guide people to perform sacrificial rites. They are prose
explanationsof the method of using the Mantras in the Yajna or the sacrifice.
The Brahmanaportion is suitable for the householders.

TheUpanishads are the most important portion of the Vedas. The Upanishads
containthe essence or the knowledge portion of the Vedas The Upanishads are
useful forthe Sannyasins

Q14 Answer in a few words about the Vedas-(level of  a graduate)

A14 The mostholy hymns and mantras put together into four collections called
the Rig, Sama,Yajur, and Atharva . Vedas are difficult to date, because they
were passed onorally for about a thousand years before they were written down

The Richasof the Rigveda comprise of prayers and praises of the gods.

TheYajurveda speaks of the different types of Yagya (religious sacrifices).

The Samvedaconsists of many a richas from the Rigveda, which are indeed lyrical
andmusical.

TheAtharvaveda contains a lot of knowledge of the physical world and
spirituality

The hymns ofthe Rig Veda are considered the oldest and most important of the
Vedas, havingbeen composed between 1500 BC and the time of the great Bharata
war about 900BC.

More than athousand hymns are organized into ten mandalas or circles of which
the secondthrough the seventh are the oldest and the tenth is the most recent.

Essentiallythe Rig Veda is dominated by hymns praising the Aryan gods for
giving themvictories and wealth plundered from the local Dasas through warfare.

Generally the hymns of the Rig Veda praise thegods and ask them for worldly
benefits such as wealth, health, long life, protection, and victory over the
Dasa peoples.

Rigveda is aVeda in form of Sukti's, which mean 'beautiful statements'. A
collection ofvery beautifully composed incantations itself is a Sukta Rigveda
is the oldestVeda. It comprises of 10 Mandals, 102 Suktas and containing 10,552
mantras.

Yajurveda inspire humans to walk on the pathof Karma (deeds) . That is why it
is also referred to as Karma-Veda TheYajurveda includes mantras related to,
worship of god, vedic rituals related toworship and religious sacrifices.

TheYajurveda is classified into 40 parts /chapters consisting of 1975 mantras

YogeshwarSriKrishna has stated the importance of Samaveda in the
followingmanner-VEDANAMA SAMAVEDO ASMI meaning " I am samaveda myself, amongst
theVedas."(GEETA 10/22) Cumulatively, there are 1875 mantras in the Samaveda.

On the basisof the style of singing and pronunciation there were once upon a
time a thousandbranches, but gradually became extinct. Now also we do not come
across manythat recite the Samagana.

Many of themare found in Southern India, especially Mysore. The 3 branches now
known as Ranayani,Kauthumi and Jaiminiya.

It is important to know that the method ofpronunciation of Samaveda and
Rigveda is evidently different and in thislanguage one alphabet can change the
meaning and context of mantra altogether.

Q15Can you quote a few of the recites from yajurveda indicating importance of
wife?

A15  ASTHURI NAO GARHAPATYANI SANTU SHATAM HIMAHA |-------------(2/27 Yajurveda)

Maywe both perform the duties of the family for a 100 years

Familylife can, only then be peaceful and happy if both the husband and wife
performstheir respective duties consistently for a 100 years without obstacles .

A cart having only one buffalo is known asSthuri and a cart pulled by 2
buffaloes is known as Asthuri, because 2 (husband- wife) pull them. It thus,
becomes clear that one can perform their dutiesbetter when they are assisted by
each other.

VARCHO MEM DEHI|-------------(3/17 Yajurveda)

O Agni ! You are the protector ofthe body, so protect my body. You are the
giver of long life, so give us longlife. You are the giver of radiance, so
bless us with radiance.

Itis said that fire resides in the body, until the fire is there in the body
itenkindles the life, when this fire ceases the body does not exist.

When the, health is sound one shall have alonglife . It is because of fire
that one grows with radiance. So one shouldmaintain purity of the body , by
regularly exercising and purify the mind byworship and self study. As results
of this one is blessed with long life and becomesradiant. Therefore we should
do all those things that protect the body, lifeand radiance.

liberate us from death. Mayour attachments cease alike that of Urvaaru (a
specie of cucumber) which ripensand falls of the tree i.e liberates itself from
the material objects.

Theperson who recites this incantation regularly is freed from ailments, fear,
