    I shall enumerate the names of the different law-givers of the world (
Manu <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/manu#purana>) who flourished in
the different cycles of time, as well as their sons and progenies such as
Suka <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/shuka#purana>, etc. Sayambhuva
was the name of the first law-giver of the world. He had seven sons named
Marichi <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/marici#purana>, Atri
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/atri#purana>, Angira
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/angira#purana>, Pulastya
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/pulastya#purana>, Pulaha
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/pulaha#purana>, Kratu
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/kratu#purana>, and Vashishta, who
formed the brotherhood of the seven holy sages known as the Saptarishis
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/saptarshi#purana>. Twelve Ganas
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/gana#purana> (regents or tutelary
gods of the different quarters of the sky and of the physical phenomena as
well) of that cycle of time, were named Jaya

<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/amita#purana>, Shukra
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/shukra#purana>, Yama
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/yama#purana>, the four drinkers of
the expressed juice of the Somaplant, Vishvabhuk

<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/vamadeva#purana>. The latter was
elected the lord of the celestials at the time. The Demon Vashkali invaded
the kingdom of the then lord of the gods and the God Vishnu

own discus.

       After him Svarochisa
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/svarocisha#purana> became the Manu or
the law-giver of the world. His sons were named Mandaleshvara
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/mandaleshvara#purana>, Chaitraka
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/caitraka#purana>, Vinata
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/vinata#purana>, Karnanta, Vidyata,
Ravi <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/ravi#purana>, Vrihatguna, and
Nabha <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/nabha#purana>. The seven holy
sages who sanctified that particular age with their holy lives, were called

      The race of Paravatas

terrestrial globe. The guardian deities of heaven were twelve in number.
Vipaschit reigned as the lord of the celestials in that age and the demon
PurukritSara was his antagonist. The god Hari assumed the shape of an
elephant and killed that dreadful demoniac adversary of the contemporary
Indra <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/indra#purana>, and restored the
moral order of the universe.

        The names of the sons of Auttama
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/auttama#purana>, the third Manu or
lawgiver of the world, were Aja, Parushu, Vinita
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/vinita#purana>, Suketu
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/suketu#purana>, Sumitra
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/sumitra#purana>, Suvala, Shuchi

<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/deva#purana>, Devavridha

flourished in that age, were named Rathauja

<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/satya#purana> and the Pratardanas
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/pratardana#purana>. Svashanti reigned
over them all as their Indra or overlord. The demon Pralamva was the
antagonist of the Indra of the age and the God Hari in his Fish Incarnation
had to kill that enemy of the gods.

          The sons of Tamasa

named Janu <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/janu#purana>, Jangha
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/jangha#hinduism>, Nirbhaya

<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/nava#purana>, Khyati
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/khyati#purana>, Naya

Havu-Skandhi and Prostalaksha. The seven holy sages who flourished in that
age, were named Jyotidharma, Dhrista-Kavya

their Indra. The demon Bhimaratha

suzerainty of heaven with the latter and was subsequently killed by Hari in
his tortoise incarnation.

         The sons of Raivata Manu

Mahaprana, Sadhaka <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/sadhaka#purana>,
Vanavandhu, Niramitra

Shuchi, Dridhavrata
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/dridhavrata#purana>, and Ketushringa
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/ketushringa#purana>. The seven holy
sages who flourished in that age, were named Deva Shri

paramount soverign of them all. The demon Shanta

the contemporary lord of heaven. The god Vishnu assumed the shape of a swan
and destroyed that molester of celestial peace.

           The sons of Chakshusha Manu

Puru <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/puru#purana>, Mahavala
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/mahavala#india-history>, Shatadumnya,

and Kriti <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/kriti#purana>. The names of
the holy sages who practised penances in that age, were Agnishnu, Atiratra

Indra. The demon Mahakala

contemporary king of heaven who was killed by the god Hari who had to
assume the shape of a horse for the purpose.

            The sons of Vaivasvata Manu

Ikshaku, (current0 Nabha, Vishti
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/vishti#purana>, Sarjati, Lavishyanta,
Panshunabha, Navishta, Karusha

Sudyumna. The seven sages who sanctified the age with their piety, were
named Atri, the god like Vashista, Jamadagni

all. The demon Hiranyaksha

enemy of the then lord of the celestials and met his doom at the hand of
the god Vishnu, incarnated as the primordial boar.

      Now I shall enumerate the names of the sons of Savarni

the world. Their names would be Vijaya
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/vijaya#purana>, Arvavira, Nirdeha,
Satyavak <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/satyavak#purana>, Kriti,
Varishla, Garishta <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/garishta#purana>,
Vachas <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/vaca#purana> and Sugati
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/sugati#purana>. The seven ages, who
would grace the age with their advents, would be named Ashvathama, Kripa
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/kripa#purana>, Vyasa
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/vyasa#purana>, Galava
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/galava#purana>, Diptimana,
Rishyashringa <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/rishyashringa#purana>
 and Rama <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/rama#purana>. The gods such
as Sutapas <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/sutapa#purana> Amritabhas,
and Mukhyas <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/mukhya#purana>, etc.,
would people the ethereal plains of heaven, and Vali
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/vali#purana>, the son of Virochana
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/virochana#hinduism> would reign over
them all as their Indra. The god Vishnu, incarnate as a Dwarf, would beg of
him only three foot-measures of land. Vali would gladly grant him his
behest, but would be deprived of his kingdom of the three worlds just at
the time of ratifying his agreement, when the dwarf manifestation of god,
would expand into his Infinite and eternal self to the consternation of all
the on-lookers. Subsequently Vali would make over his sovereignty to the
god and happily descend into the shades of the nether world.

         Now hear me enumerate the names of the sons of Daksha

Manu or the law-giver of the world, their names would be Dhritiketu
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/dhritiketu#purana>, Diptiketu

<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/panca#hinduism>-hasta, Nirikriti,
Prithushrava <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/prithushrava#purana>,
Vrihatdumnya, Richika <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/ricika#purana>,
Vrihata and Gana <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/gana#purana>. The
demon Kalakasha would be the enemy of the then lord of the celestials and
would be destroyed by the Padmanabha

Vishnu.

       The names of the twelve sons of Dharmaputra

celestials, and the god Hari would slay him with one stroke of his mighty
mace-weapon.

         Now hear me enumerate the names of the sons of Rudraputra, the
eleventh Manu. They would be called Sarvatraga

of the seven holy sages who would flourish in that age. The inmates of
heaven would be divided into different clanships, Such as the Vihangamas

Ramagamas (going anywhere they like), Nirmanas and the Ruchis
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/ruci#purana>. Members of the
celestial family of Ruchi
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/ruci#purana> would
rule over each of the other clans of heaven, and Vrisha would be the
overlord of them all. The demon Dashagriva
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/dashagriva#purana> (ten-necked one)
would contest the sovereignty of heaven with the then lord of the
celestials, and would ultimately fall at the hands of the Shrirupa
manifestation of Vishnu.

         Hear me enumerate the names of the sons of Dakshaputra, the twelfth
Manu of the world, They would be named as Devas

the names of the seven holy sages whose glorious advent would sanctify that
particular cycle of time. The gods would be divided into different clans
such as the Svadharmans, Sutapasas, Haritas

<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/rohita#purana>, etc., and Retadhama
or Bhadra <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/bhadra#purana> would be
their Indra or overlord. The demon Taraka

territories of the then lord of the celestials. O Shankara
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/shankara#purana>, the god Hari,
incarnate as a eunuch, would destroy that fell peace-breaker of the
universe.

      Now hear me enumerate the names of the sons of the thirteenth Manu of
the world. They would be named as Chitrasena

<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/vicitra#purana>, Tapas
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/tapas#hinduism>. Dharmarata, Dhriti,
Kshetravritti, Dharmapa, and Dridha. O thou possessed of handsome eyes, the
seven holy sages who would grace the world with their advent in that age,
would be called Dhritimana, Avyaya, Nisharupa, Nirutsaka, Nirmana, and
Tattvadarshi. The celestials would be divided into thirty-three different
clanships, such as the Svaromanas, the Svadharmanas, the Svakarmans, etc.,
and the god Divaspati

overlord of them all. The demon Tristhubha would dispute with him the
suzerainty of heaven, and the god Madhara

Manu of the world. They would be named as Uru, Gabhira

<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/tarasvi#purana>, Graha
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/graha#purana>, Abhimani, Pravira
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/pravira#purana>, Jishnu
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/jishnu#purana>, Sankrandana, Tejasvi
and Durlabha. The seven holy sages who would flourish in that age, would be
named Agnidhra <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/agnidhra#purana>,
Agni-vahu, Magadha <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/magadha#purana>,
Shuchi, Ajita, Mukta <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/mukta#purana> and
Shukra. The gods would be divided into five clanships, each consisting of
seven sub-groups, or families, such as the Chakshushas

<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/karma#purana>-nisthas
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/nishtha#purana>, the Pavitras

the Vachavrithas, and the god Shuchi, would be their Indra or paramount
ruler. The demon Maha <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/maha#purana>-
daitya <https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/daitya#purana> would
inimically intrude upon the rights of the then lord of the celestials, and
the god Hari would slay him with his own hands.

*        The god Vishnu, incarnate in the shape of the holy Vyasa, would
divide the one and the entire Veda, into four different parts, and
subsequently compose the Puranas
