BEING  A COMPILATION THERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1            Why are there no Aartinear river banks in South India? Is it that
South Indians do not worshiprivers?

A1            Goutham R Lives inBengaluru, Karnataka, India Fri

I can tell from Karnataka perspective, here we don’t have aarti near river
banks, It is notlocal tradition.

There are many reasons for this.

South and north have different traditions, so this aarti tradition isalso
absent in Karnataka.

Rivers in north are perennial, there is good water flow throughout theyear. But
in south, our rivers are rainfed, they are not perennial. Duringnormal monsoon
we can see good flow of water, in other seasons it will beparched and looks
like tiny streams. When there is no water, no point in doing aarti.Karnataka is
second arid region in India after Rajasthan. Huge lands in deccanin KA, MH and
AP are very dry and arid.

Also I have observed one majordifference in aarti tradition. In south, aarti
will be over within 5 to 10mins. Either we tell a mantra or a song in our local
language likeKannada/Telugu and it will be over within 10 mins. But from
Maharashtra onwards, aarti will be donefor very long time, it goes on for more
than 30 mins, sometimes morethan an hour. I have seen Mumbai’s sarvajanik
Ganeshotsav mandals in news channels. They sing Marathi Bhajanas and do aarti,
it will last for long time. But herein Karnataka, we do aarti not more than 5
mins, Vinayaka Chaturthi is a majorfestival in Karnataka too. It is same in
North India too, devotees sing bhajansin Hindi like Jai Jagadisha hare, etc and
do aarti for long time. So the samehappens in front of rivers also. As our
aarti itself is very quick, suchrituals are not done in front of rivers.

I have also seen North Indians devotees in Bengaluru temples doing aartiin
front of God. Local people visit temples, pray to God, take teertha andprasada
and leave. So this culture of doing aarti out of our homes is very lessin
South. Only exception is on Fridays, ladies light lamps on lemons and doaarti
in Devi temples. Apart from this we don’t do aarti outside.

Recently this tradition has started on Cauvery, Kapila and Tunga riverbanks, it
is inspired seeing Ganga aarti in TV. It willbe done once in a year or so and
not daily.

an ice bath. Dry them. Heat some garlic in olive oil. In go you carrotsfollowed
by half a cup of vinegar and a spoon of sugar. Season with salt andpepper.
Leave them to cool down. Overnight in the fridge, if you can resisteating them
straightaway.

Q3            Why did it take solong for ancient civilizations to come up with
the concept of "zero"?

A3            Matt RiggsbyMAArchaeology, Boston University Tue

Because it wasn’t, so far as theycould tell, useful or even meaningful.

Why do we use numbers? If you’re someone in an ancient civilization, it’sto
count and measure things: three sheep, five and a half miles down the river, six
hundred pounds of wheat, and so on. Zero indicates nothingness, a lack
ofsomething to count or measure. And if there’s nothing to count or measure,
thennumbers don’t enter into it. They don’t apply any more than going north of
thenorth pole. Without things to apply numbers to, the concept makes no
sense.Eventually, more abstract mathematics developed a use for zero, but
generallyspeaking, the very idea took time to be accepted because it seemed
like animpossible concept.

Q3            Why does water stillrun when the power goes out?

A3            Steven Haddock Studiedat York University (Canada)Jan 14

It won’t do so indefinitely, but most water systems are setup to pump water
(with electricity) to a high reservoir where it sits untilit’s needed. This
ensures that water pressure remains consistent nomatter what the demand for it.

When the water in the tower falls to a certain level, the pump comes onand
re-fills it until it reaches its maximum level. To get it out, all you haveto
do is open a valve on the system.

Q4            What is the mostunderestimated nature's gift?

A4            Katyayani Misra M.Scin Chemistry, Nanyang Technological
University (Graduated 2010)Updated 14h

I feel they are the most underestimated gift known to mankind. Why? Letsbegin

So we all know lemons as

Salad dressings    Perfumes    Fragrance   Summer drinks    Ice creams

BUT  Did you know

they are excellent scrubs aswell: The moment I squeezea lemon I always rub my
hands on my face. SKIN SPARKLES. I am always asked if Ihad a facial, nope. Its
lemons!!!!!

We suffered small cockroachinfestation, nothing worked. Spray Lemon. Wallah.
Well not that cockroaches died but I did notice they reduceddrastically.

Brass cleaning I remember meand my mom would becleaning hours the brass
decorations my dad used to buy. Rub lemon+ salt=magic.

Beautiful feet

Leave feet in lemon squeezed water for 15 min and scrub, glistening feet.

Every morning I drink lemon water, a little hot. Its a habit.

Rub sugar on lemon and mydaughter loves licking it, looks yuck but hey, its her
thing.

I love a home that smells like citrus in summers and charred Lemon
inwinters?????

Yes I am bizarre. I am very particular about smells.

So squeeze some lemon juice with zest in a spay bottle and spray it. Icant tell
its hypnotic. However, Indian food smells strong, so I use incense

God bless our Hindu and Buddhistancestors for creating these, affordable and
immediately smells disappear.

In winters

I roast lemon peels and my house smells divine, almost like the
Fireplaceperfume of Mecca Brand.

My friends always ask why my home smells like lemons. Its just addictive.

Put a lemon peel when you dry your clothes, it doesn’t make the smellright off
he bat but if your clothes are very old like mine, it helps to maskany other
fragrance cause old clothes even after a thorough wash have aparticular smell.
Fresh!!!!!

Conclusion

Lemons are wonders of nature. I looooove them and cant get enough ofthem.
Expensive but when it comes to food and perfumes this girl nevercompromises.

For a woman its imperative that she and her home smells fresh. Its mymantra.Jai
Parshuram.

Q5            Why do most of theIndians financially depend on their children
after retirement?

A5            D D Rishi Former IRS |Advocate | LL. M.,Ph.D. (Law) | Wed

Most Indians spend recklessly onthe education and marriage of their children,
and become bankrupt soon enough.

After a certain age, children should work while studying instead of beinga
burden on their parents. But parents sadly don't promote this.

It is a criminal wastage of money to spend unnecessary on marriagefunctions to
'protect social prestige’. Children are also privy to this crime.

Indian do save wisely. If theystop this reckless abuse of their savings, they
won't have to become dependent on their children in old age.

Q6            Why should you neveruse an electrical appliance in the bathroom?

A6            Jerry Doma,VolunteerAnswered 20h ago

Who said you never should? I use an electric toothbrush and hair dryer in my
bathroom.

2ND ANSWER-TomHinkle, former Software Developer (1976-2016)Answered 19h ago

If this were true, they wouldn’t put electrical outlets in bathrooms. Nowwould
they sell curling irons, hair dryers, electric razors, etc.

Modern bathrooms should have aGFCI to protect against the possibility of a
serious shock. And people shouldalways use due care to not use the appliances
around water.

3RD ANSWER- KeithJenkins, Worked 20 yrs for Maplin Electronicss. A UK type

In ye olde times the protection was a lumpy fuse, not a great idea.

Now using RCD I happily useelectronic devices in my bathroom. If correctly
installed they will disconnect in 40ms, that is faster thanit takes your brain
to register that you have had a shock. If you brain doesnot register it, then
in effect you have not had a shock

Q7            What single dose ofmodern medicine would have the greatest effect
on history?

A7            R.K. Shwetabh PediatricSpecialist at Government of Odisha
(2020–present)Tue

If effect means decreasing mortality/death then there is a very commondrug
which all of us have used sometime or other. And the drug is ORS(Oral
Rehydration Solution).

Yes, this packet, this small packet which costs less than Rs 20 and manyof us
don't consider it as drug also, has saved not thousands but millions of life
world wide.

Back in 60s and 70s,in children-diarrhoea was one of the leading causesof
death. Not only children even in adults, during wars, diarrhoea used toclaim
millions of life.

But,after introduction ofORS,deaths due to diarrhea has reduced sifnificantly.
Various studies show that treatment with ORSdecease mortality in diarrhoea by
more than 90%.Isnt it a wonder drug.

Q8            What are the harshrealities of being a doctor?

A8            Rumi Doctor at Delhi(2014–present)Tue

The harsh realities of doctors particularly corporate doctors…0

Irrespective of how much dedicated you are towards your patients andhospital,
how famous you are, how you are one of the reason of the growth ofthe hospital,
themoment you stop listening to the management, they'll kick you out…….

A cardiologist takes 11.5 years of training including 5.5years MBBS,3years
MD/MS & 3years DM/MCH. And after that 11years of experience………stillnot
considered a well-experienced doctor. This is the bitter truth.

Currently I was watching “Human" web series……..and at least these 2points are
well depicted here.

and safeto drink. So, switch your drinking habits to Alkaline Water.

2ND ANSWER-   BlueLife TechnoSciences India Pvt. Ltd., Manufacturers of
Innovative and UniqueResidential Water PurifiersAnswered Jul 21, 2017

It is based on your source water.RO Membrane salt rejectionrate is 90 to 98%.

The best way to connect the RO purifier is that to connect with yourground
water. The permeate TDS will be good, if ground water TDS is less than2000ppm,
also the performance of RO Membrane will be good.

If ground water is not available, alternatively municipal water is onlythe
source. In this case the TDS in permeate will be low. Chlorine degrades
ROmembranes, and chances of RO membrane failures are high.

Q10         What are the mostincorrect things taught by Indian parents to their
children?

A10          Nagarajan SrinivasThedonkey seldom gets the carrot it chases!Wed

A2A. Very old question. 100 plus answers. Not sure if this has beenmentioned
already.

Comparison and Competition.Rightfrom very young age the Indianparents make
their children acutely conscious of being constantly compared withothers and
also encourage the children to always compete, ingraining a feelingthat
happiness lies only in winning in competitions with others.

With these two incisive cutsthe Indian parentseffectively clip the twin wings
of individuality and enjoyment in theirchildren and maim them for life. This is
perhaps why most Indians remain larvaefor the entire lifetime, without flying
out as butterflies.

Sad, isn't it?
