TURKEYTOWEL Dear friends,
I was thinking of writing about Turkey towel for quite some time. While in service each officer was supplied with 4 turkey towels in a year.Mostly in different colours. Two were for residence. We were having residencefurniture for carrying out office work of various types which could beconveniently done in residence or for emergent works. These towels were put overthe cushion on the back of chair. In the office the towels were periodically washedand brought in office by an arranged dhobi. Residence we had to do wash forourselves. Let me continue with Turkeytowel. Gopalakrishnan 8-8-2022 1. Why are Turkeytowels called so? Turkish bath and hand towels were invented in the 17th centuryin Bursa, Turkey and have been used in Turkish bathhouses for centuries. Knownto be super absorbent when compared to traditional towels, their tightly wovencotton is typically styled in wide and narrow stripes. 2. Use as bath towels Some people use them as bath towel in India also though manyprefer less weight towels locally made. Turkey towel is more absorbent. It is atleast three times heavy comparing to local towel. 3. Residencies andGuest houses. Irrespective of our preference most residencies and guesthouse provide large size bath towel and smaller size face towel. 4. Railways. In railway AC sleeper coaches before Covid19, along withblanket, bed spreads, pillows one hand kerchief was also supplied. In manytrains now the railway has re started issuing them. The quality of the towelvaries with type of AC coach, high quality soft ones in 1st ACcoach. 5. Wash basin towels. After wash basin has become essential in a home, in the standnear medium size turkey towel is provided. Most homes keep quality new ones in reserveand replace the ones when guests arrive. Here too depend on the status ofguests, quality of towel changes. Not only near wash basins, in bathrooms also new turkey towelsare provided. Mostly the persons in the home may be using local towels. 6. Keeping turkeytowels Turkey towels occupy more space in shops. Earlier on thisaccount bath towels were folded and kept in shops and homes. Now most shopskeep them rolled. 7. Cleaning laptop, computer, TVs Slightly wetted smooth small size towels are used to cleanlaptops, computers and TV receivers. Most keep separate towel for cleaning displayand body. In the case of lap tops key board is also cleaned by them ensuringthey are all switched OFF during cleaning. Many use cleaning agents applied onthe towel. 8. Kitchen use. After modular kitchens have come turkey towel finds essentialapplication in kitchens and work area. Glass top and tiled walls are cleaned byturkey towels only after applying cleaning agent. Fridges are cleaned usingturkey towel. Mostly for cleaning granite tops, exterior of refrigerators, metallicsinks, and small size turkey towel is used. 9. Availability. Whereas bath towels and face towels are available in textileshops, small and medium size of different quality are available more in supermarkets. 10 Travel and personaluse Many are specific of having their own bath towels during journeysand halts. Where as many prefer local tower, some prefer turkey towelirrespective of the space it occupy. I use Indian local towel for bath. In all other places I useturkey towel. The efficiency of a small towel is much more in cleaning laptops,TVs and fridges. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
