Good one. SELF-ESTRAINT AND SELF CONTROL

Chapter 6 of B G, deals with the practice of self-restraint and control of
desires which lead to even mindedness in actions. A yogi who practices
self-control conquers himself and attains oneness with Brahman. If at all
one wishes that there must be someone to change one in the right course,
one has to look at the mirror. Krishna might be an anchor for Arjuna, but
the change has to be brought over, only by Arjuna. Krishna in chap 18 says
so to Arjuna. Ozhukkam vizhuppam tharalal, ozhukkam uyirinum ombapppadum,
said Tiruvalluar; self-discipline conquers the mind; hence that is high in
value and value more than the Life.

B G 2 reads, (2) Without giving up intentions, none can become a true yogi.
Work is said to be the means, even mindedness in doing actions is to be the
means. (3) . (5). Let a man lift himself by himself. Let him not degrade
himself. Certainly, self is friend to the self and self is also the enemy
of the self.

uddhared ātmanātmānaṁ nātmānam avasādayet
ātmaiva hy ātmano bandhur ātmaiva ripur ātmanaḥ B G 5 chap6

No language has any barriers. Sanskrit and vedantas are so simple. People
think of it as an ANACONDA and run away. The above verse is made so simple;
UDARET ATMANA ATMANAM= ATMANA IS JEEVATMA, SELF AND ONESELF; ATMANA
ATMANAM= AVANARULAL AVAN THAL VANAGI AS IN Tamil, so self by self ; one
self by one self shall lift.

Na atmanam avasadayet= do not get into avasthai trouble by yourself.

Atmaiva atmano bhandur= bhandu is relation; the best friend for you is only
yourself.

Atmaiva ripur atmanah=RIPUH means enemy; atma only atma’s enemy. You are
enemy to yourself. Nandrum thethum pirar thara vaara. Mr J said that alone.
Pep talk or advancement in life was preached at least 5000 years ago.

6. He who has controlled his self by his self, certainly his self is his
best friend, but for him who has not conquered his self his self is his
enemy.

Again repeated with determination.

bandhur ātmātmanas tasya yenātmaivātmanā jitaḥ
anātmanas tu śatrutve vartetātmaiva śatru-vat 6.6 B G

Bandur atmat atmana tasya = in 5 it is said your friend is yourself; now it
says, because you are your own friend,

Yena atmaiva atmana jita:= so you shall conquer (Jita) your mind; it is so
easier; it must be easier.

Anatmanas tu satrutve= on the contrary, you are your own enemy, (satru)

Vartatae so it happens; atmaiva satru: your mind is your enemy.

7. The self-conquered peaceful person is but the Supreme Self. For him cold
or heat, happiness or sorrow, respect or disrespect are the same.

8. He who is fully satisfied with knowledge and wisdom, who is mentally
stable and is master of his senses, and who regards gold or rubbish or a
piece of stone as the same, such a self-realized soul is fit to be called a
Yogi.

17. He who has learned to control his eating and enjoyment, who performs
his actions in a balanced manner, who maintains balance between his waking
and sleeping periods, his yoga frees him for all his sorrows.

30. He who sees Me everywhere and all Me, I am not lost to him, nor he is
lost to Me.

yo māṁ paśyati sarvatra sarvaṁ ca mayi paśyati
tasyāhaṁ na praṇaśyāmi sa ca me na praṇaśyati

YO MOM PASYATI SARVATRA= ONE WHO SEES ME IN ALL

Sarvam ca mayi pasyati= he sees all only as ME

And in one shot: tasyam na pranasyami Me na pranasyati= He never loses ME
nor ever I lose him. Neither Sanskrit nor text is tough if only people
wish to see it as a simple spoken language in any other language. Words of
Sanskrit are in every language including English. KR IRS 23423
