But phrases like democracy has won etc. are just that - words. They are more to console ourselves. My take: 1. The overconfidence of the BJP and the consequent lower turnout. 2. Over reliance on one individual - we need strong state level leaders with enough powers. 3. BJP's National President should be a person with strong popular support and more charisma. Just riding on Modi’s back will not do. 4. We Hindus will never unite. We specialize in committing hara kiri. 5. If after Sandeshkhali Mamata still wins, there is no hope for the country. 6. Muslims will in due course of time, will rule the country as they call the shots where they are more than 20%, negating the earlier presumption of 30%. 7. We Hindus are so badly divided on caste basis, we would rather prefer Islamic rulers than accommodate each other. 8. We fall prey to cash handouts and freebies and don't care about fiscal deficit, prudent financial management etc. 9. Feeling among the middle class that tax rates were skewed against them, what with the high patrol and gas prices. 10. Failure of the Govt to explain what they have done and why. 12. Social media does not help win the elections beyond a point, leaders need to be in touch with the ground realities. 13. At least in T N, internal sabotage by disgruntled leaders who think only seniority counts and not talent or merit. 14. Modi should rely more on his political colleagues than just on the bureaucracy only, however bright they may be. They can get the job done but the politicians know the pulse of the people and know what works and what doesn't. 15. As the saying goes, everything is for the good- at least that's the only reason to console ourselves. 16. Exit polls ( India Today) called the two assembly elections correctly but missed the Lok Sabha elections. 17. Modi has to show more statesmanship to carry his Allies along, as he seems to lead a Coalition Govt, in its true sense, for the first time. 18.
