Hi All,
First of all, yes I did read the previous post concerning water that
was too soft. I have a bit of the opposite problem.
I recently started a new thirty gallon tank. The pH has been doing
some strange things. One day it's around 7.8 or 8, then the next it's
down to 6.8. I didn't do anything to change it! The only thought I
had was the water hardness, so I checked it. The KH reading checks in
at 71.6 ppm, while the GH is off the scale. The test kit (an API
model) shows a top reading of 214.8 if it takes 12 drops to change the
color of the sample. It took me 17 drops to get the change. I think
that's a bit hard.
Now for some juicy background details:
It's a 30 gallon tank with two 40i in tank filters. I have 2 bubble
toys churning away. I have 6 fairly large plants.
Now for the fish:
3- Black mollys
1- Male Betta
2- Kissing Gouramis
2- Red Swordtails
5- Zebra Danios
6- Neon Tetras
5- Black Tetras
3- Guppies (1 male, 2 females)
2- Snails
I know that's a lot of fish, but most of them are very small.
The only other thing worth mentioning is that, after having success in
my 10 gallon tank adding crushed coral to the filter to stabilize the
pH, I went for 1/2 colored gravel and 1/2 crushed coral as a
substrate. Could it be I overdosed on coral?
Any suggestions woudl be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
