The Second Annual E-Literary Awards will be held on Saturday August 27 @ The Literary Cafe please copy and paste this ballot and email it to [EMAIL PROTECTED]   It's August again and that means it's time for the E~Literary Awards! Award ceremony will be held August 27th at none other than the Literary Cafe 12325 NE 6 Ave in Miami, FL.  Yes, the place is small but the meaning of the award has the heart of the most loving person God has ever sent here! So vote now! This ceremony is done in loving memory of my friend Elle AKA Lori who helped me with the planing of last year awards and single-handedly made shirts and awards while also hosting last years event. It was that kind of loving spirit that made her and the E-Literary awards so special. Lorrie was to follow 4 hours later but missed her flight,... The mission for the night was to go to the Nuyorican so she could read. 3 of us made our way to Nuyorican and awaited a call from Lorrie to see when she would be landing. And another call for me to meet with Amel & Laru Larrieux. Lorrie called... her dad would come from Jersey picke her and her boyz up and then bring her to the Nuyorican. The doorman and a poet helped me with directions and she made it in time for the late night set. My other call came while she was en route. As opposed to 7am I had to be at CBS for 3:30am. We all decided to go together. we just knew there would be a lobby or something so it would'nt look bad on me when I brought my friends along. Alas there was no such luck. 6 hours later we watched Amel perform live in the studio no less than 10 steps from us. Lorrie asked for an interview for the E Literary cafe and got it.. We taped the interview took some pics and left for some well needed rest. Lorrie went to Jersey and I stayed in NY the rest of the weekend. Lorries job in Miami is 5 minutes from my house so on many a Thursday night she would come over change and we would head out. She was Single and childless for the first time since she was 18. her divorce was almost final and the kids were away for a month. from July 2nd to August 26th 2004 Lorrie LIVED she had the Cafe up and running..Southern Fried under her belt she was an official Poetry Community member. Not the persistent little girl who damn near forced me to let her build me a website when she first came on the scene. Mellow Dramatic Mondays was close to her house she became a part of the team quickly and was always ready to help out. She recited her first poem @ THE VOCAB and has been spytting ever since. Lorrie the woman came into being in 2004. she was determined to not live in Fear anymore and she tasted life as she wanted it for an entire summer. Southern Fried, Amel Larrieux, KRS One she was a force to be wreckoned with. and in one month she did more that most of us do in a year. She spoke only of the great things ahead and kept the the other things secret she spoke of her abusive experiences with a smirk as though they were past and not present tense. I should have seen a sign, should have been a little nosier, should have gone to the house more often....we all ask ourselves how something so horrid could happen under our noses and no one knew enough to speak up. It's funny you can have a stranger hospitalized for fear of them doing something to themselves but you can't press charges againts someone for abusing a friend. There is a war on our daughters FOR REAL.....and we are the enemy cuz we are unable to protect them from selfish lovers and violent relations and from the fears that keep them quiet.... On Thursday August 26th @ 2am .....Lorrie came home after leaving a poetry spot where she recited the her last poem.  by 3:30am Lorrie had GIVEN the ultimate SOMETHING UP her life was taken brutally as her children lay asleep in the house.. She was stabbed multiple times in her upper torso and her throat was slit.  As her children lay sleeping in another room. .Her sons are now living with her sister in Michigan.
