Sorry, the attribute check boxes have changed with the newer systems. 
  The important thing is that Read-only is NOT checked.  If that is 
the case, and it is still not saving your font changes, be sure that 
you do not have two versions of MixW on your machine.  It is 
surprisingly easy to do.

There are no versions of MixW after 2.18 (Feb 19, 2007) that I know 
of.  I have never heard of a "bug trap".  I think your two problems 
may be related.
