[MixW Multimode] Gateway laptop, VISTA, an Mix-W do not mix.

Hello All,

I have just installed Mix-W 2.18 onto my Gateway model ML6720 laptop.  
When I tried to run the program, this error message popped up:

"The sound card you have chosen (microsoft sound mapper)is already in 
use or does not support wave format.  Sound card operation is disabled"

Has anyone else experienced such a thing, and if so, what it the 
solution?
