The Power Hour occassionally has this disclaimer that some of their
information may be untrue since it comes from the Government, and the
Government has explicitly stated that it lies sometimes.

This disclaimer came to mind when I read the beginning of philosopher
Diana Hsieh's article "Excuses Excuses" at
http://www.dianahsieh.com/papers/ee.html :

To advocate dishonesty or deception as occasionally morally
acceptable or even praiseworthy is a tricky business for both
philosophers and laypersons. Since successful lies depend upon a
presumption of truthfulness, it seems imprudent to announce the
possibility of lies and deception in advance.

Why on earth did the Gov. announce that, for "national security" or
whatever reason, they will lie sometimes ? This makes their own lies
ineffective.

Truely, the inmates are now running the asylum !
