Neither of them was sure why they were there and the building was giving them weird vibes. They didn�t like the feel of the building or the way that the Shifters were eyeing them. Something was going on and they were not sure that they should be there. The Shifter that had met them at the door looked back at them every once in a while to make sure that they were following him. Xander and Dawn had taken the appointment and agreed to the house call after they were told that Narcissus could not come to them. It was only later that they learned that he never left the club anymore. When they reached the Oba�s main quarters, the pair were further unnerved by the way that the three Shifters in the room spun to face them, and the way that they looked at them. The man on the bed was obviously pregnant , and the pair shared a look when he smiled congenially. �Hello, Narcissus, I�m Dawn, and this is my brother, Xander. We�ve brought the components needed to perform the spell,� Dawn said calmly, though her instincts were telling her to run. There was something going on here beyond a pregnant Shifter needing their aid. �Thank you, my dear. I have followed your instructions just as you gave them,� Narcissus told her. �Okay,� Dawn said before looking at Xander. Xander nodded to her and the pair walked over to the bed where the Shifter lay resting. When they got closer, a shiver of foreboding ran up their spines and Xander had to resist the urge to grab Dawn and run. Xander took the potion from Dawn and gave it to the pregnant man. Xander did not want Dawn anywhere near their �patient�. When he touched the pregnant man, he realized that the feelings were not coming from him and relaxed slightly. Narcissus only felt hope and fear. �Are you all right? Has someone threatened you recently?� Xander asked as he sat on the bed beside him. The werehyenas all looked at one another in alarm, while Dawn moved forward. �Someone tried to kidnap our Oba a month ago. Since then, hyenas all over the town have been attacked,� one of the guards said softly. Dawn and Xander both growled. �Human�s First,� they said in unison, with the same amount of distaste. �Stupid morons, if it wasn�t for our oath I�d send them all to some place hot and terrifying,� Dawn said with a pout. She couldn�t deal with the idiots. The hyenas looked at one another in confusion. They were used to humans standing up for the other Shifters in St. Louis, but not for them. When HAV and the rest of their group attacked them, four years prior, the werehyenas that defended themselves were nearly charged with murder for it. There was also still a great deal of prejudice, for example, vampires could operate clubs within the city, while Shifters had to go across the lake. �Did you know that they tried to take the Werelioness two months ago, when they found out she was pregnant?� Xander asked as he help Narcissus sit up. �No, I did not,� the Oba answered. �They're targeting pregnant Shifters. The stupid bastards think that, if you're allowed to have children, it will show the rest of the world that you are actually closer to being human than they are,� Xander told him, while Dawn began gently drawing symbols onto Narcissus� stomach. Xander placed his hands on either side of the pregnant man�s stomach and looked up at Dawn. She nodded and gave the older man the potion to drink. Once he had drunk the first one, she handed him another. Once Narcissus had drunk the second potion, she placed her hands on either side of Xander�s and began to chant softly. The Shifters shivered as they felt the power flow through the room and the feeling of hope that it left behind shocked them. Some of the gloom and forebo ding that had hung over the room eased and began to disappear. Once they were finished, they sat back and looked down at him with a smile. Narcissus had fallen asleep. The pair stood and turned to face the nearest guard. �He will sleep for at least eight hours. When he wakes up, he needs to take this potion immediately and take it again every twelve hours until Lillian says it's time for the twins to be born,� Dawn told them with a smile. Hermes nodded and took the potions gently from her hand. He was very careful with humans as he was afraid he would harm them. He had only been a werehyena for six months, and for three of them he had been under Chimera�s control. This made him very leery of those that were not Pride. �Now, I believe we were supposed to see more patients while we were here?� Xander asked, drawing the younger man from his thoughts. Hermes nodded again and led the two healers from the room. He took them down another hallway an d into another room. This one was larger than the others and had several rows of beds. All of which had broken or disfigured bodies on them, Dawn whimpered in distress as she saw what awaited them, while Xander clutched her hand instinctively. �Oh Goddess,� Xander whispered. They walked further into the room and looked at those on the beds. The first one they came across made tears form in their eyes. �We need Willow and Dad,� Dawn gasped out. Xander nodded. There was no way that they could heal these wounds on their own.
