Reason is that peoples' custom metapost will always be vulnerable to additional keywords in future therion versions. I guess everything becomes obsolete eventually. Both have color keyword. It is because endcode is not needed in layout. Could you please try to add ! as a first character on the line 237. Therion will then know, that it is a line with the code.
