So, it turns out that distoX2 does not work quite the same as the
distoX1 (same commands, but it does not always respond to 'are you in
cal mode' and 'which are most recent measurement' usefully, so it took a
question to Beat to get the secret runes for doing comms with both
types (without just waiting for an 'I have these readings' message,
which seems to be how topodroid deals with this).

Stuart has now done that and updated the download/comms code to work
with both and it is here: https://github.com/malc0/distox

I will package that in Debian at some point, along with Marco's calibration 
tools.
