open the .3d File in survex
"Survex Aven" specifically.
select the two points
Select *one* point. Then hold your mouse over the second point.
H for horizontal distance - this is the one I suspect your looking for.
L for length
D for depth
H = horizontal component
V = vertical component
Dist = total distance in a straight vector
(Oh how I wish it could also tell me "Distance along the survey legs
between these points", so I could see how much caving I have to do to
get there - pipe dream...)
