Sorry, just noticed this has been sitting unanswered... As long as you're using the right delayed job version for Rails 3, then I wouldn't expect any problems - but then, I'm guessing you're doing the right thing, otherwise there probably would have been errors before this point.
When you say memory errors, is this from Sphinx? Rails?
