I have it working now. I'm not sure why but at some point I changed my searches controller def index to something weird. I reverted back to: def index @users = User.search(params[:search]) and searches now work. Thanks for being patient with me. Now I'm going to take your advice and create a separate model so I can create the association of the values for each option (ethnicity, religion, education, etc) with the numbers. Or I may just switch them all to the proper values it should be as oppose to having them read as 1,2,3,4,5, etc. Thanks!
