Hello, I am not familiar with using Bart PE in combination with DriveImage XML, but perhaps the problem is not with the programs but with the hard disk drives, themselves?
Have you tried checking them for errors using the Hitachi (formerly IBM) Drive Fitness Tool, or other hard disk drive manufacturer's tool if non- HGST/IBM hard disk drives are being used in the ThinkPads?
