Couple of things come to mind which you've probably already thought of but just 
in case....

Does that model have the manual wi-fi switch and is it on?

Have you tried deleting it out of device manager and downloading the drivers 
and reinstalling?  Had a similar problem once. The driver was corrupted by a 
Sprint wireless cell card because it had its own wi-fi driver too. It screwed 
up the Thinkpad driver.  Also had to run a registry cleaner (CCcleaner) IIRC.
