Your board is relatively safe for flash memory devices, used briefly. The problem arises when USB devices use the computer for their operating power... cameras, external drives of various types, audio relays... acquire their power for operation through USB ports - which are considered normal uses of USB ports.
There are not any satisfactory backward compatible USB devices on laptops, though on desktops one can install a four or six port USB 2.0 drive in a PCI slot. RB ----- I do not fear computers.
