It seems like this is a way in which laptops are getting worse. Years ago,
my fans would seldom come on, and then turn back off. Now they seem to blow
the whole time -- the the bottom of my laptop gets hot enough to be
uncomfortable.
So the X201 also gets hot and leaves the fan on all the time?
Was the X301 any better?
Thanks to all, I want a cool and quiet laptop! :)

Is it possible to get a Thinkpad quality laptop, but with no fan?
Even the netbooks with their low-power CPU seem to all come with a fan,
so I wouldn't hold my breath (yes, this is very sad). Tho, my Thinkpad
X30 rarely needs to activate its fan.
FWIW, my X201s's fan seems to be well-designed: although it is pretty
much always ON and is not super-quiet, the noise is not omnidirectional,
so I can hear it from the side of the laptop, but I pretty much can't
hear it at all when I'm staring at the screen.
