Jeff, there's a service available on the Internet that helps you find answers to questions like this. It's really easy: I tried it out on your problem and found some useful information immediately, without having to wait for anyone to answer.
Here's how to do it. First, go here: http://www.google.com/ Then type in some words that summarize the problem, perhaps: chrome pdf file size You can even save a shortcut for a search if you want to send a link to someone: https://www.google.com/search?q=chrome+pdf+file+size When I tried that, the first three results were titled: Issue 61538: Chrome pdf file size is almost 3-4 times larger than Safari pdf file Issue 103602: Chrome-generated PDFs have large file size Issue 99125: Print to PDF file size too big because of embedded font What are these pages? They are entries in the "issue tracker" for Chrome and its open source project Chromium. Now a tip on reading these: The top of the page describes the issue, and then there are comments after that. Note that the comments are in chronological order, so the most recent comments are at the end. So it often is not necessary to read the entire lengthy discussion, just read the problem description at the beginning and then scroll to the end to read the last few comments. In particular, the last comment (from October 20) on issue 99125 is relevant: "Work to fix this is in progress. Phase one was done in 80907, phase two is tracked by 90898." As you may know, "done" in this context doesn't mean "released" - if the fix was just done recently it will be a while before it makes it into an official release. One thing you could try to speed up that release process is to switch to the beta version of Chrome so you get new features and bug fixes sooner. Of course, beta software may have other new bugs that haven't been ironed out yet, but it is worth a try, and you can always switch back to the production release if there are problems. https://www.google.com/search?q=chrome+beta Hope that helps, -Mike p.s. Now that I've given you what I hope is a very helpful response, can I ask the obvious question: Did this have anything to do with ThinkPads at all? :-) On Sat, Nov 26, 2011 at 9:30 PM, Jeffrey Race <jr...@attglobal.net> wrote: > Using the IE included with the OEM WXP I print a > file to disk as a PDF using my Acrobat Distiller > printer object (file titian-and.pdf).
