[I thought I'd already posted part of this but I can't find it
anywhere including my drafts folder.]

The SSD seems to be working okay, I'm not feeling massively faster
times but I haven't actually recorded any yet (I did record some
common stuff from the 5400rpm like hibernating and de-hibernating
which I'll use for comparison).

I AM having trouble with the external monitors and I'm wondering if
it's likely the new system board that Lenovo provided, or if it could
be the way I cloned the drive or something else.

I have two setups in different places. One is two monitors connected
directly to the computer, one's a 17" 4:3 (VGA) and the other's a 22"
16:10 (DP). The other setup is an Ultrabase with two Dell U2410 24"
16:10s (VGA+DP). I did the clone at the 17"+22" location.

Here's what's happened so far:

When I first powered up with the SSD, I got a message to the effect of
"installing M4 drivers" which I figured was for the SSD. I had strange
results with the two displays, I don't recall exactly what it was but
I attributed it to changing the drive. I may have notes somewhere.
Eventually I got it working right as an extended desktop across the
two externals and it seemed okay. A couple of times I brought it out
of standby or hibernate and didn't have an image on both monitors. I
have vague notes somewhere and should have documented that better.
I'll dig them out or re-test if necessary, but my experience at the
2nd location may be more instructive.

Then I shut down completely and moved the X220 to the other office.
Dropped it in the Ultrabase, powered up, and got the perfect extended
desktop across the two monitors (didn't have to tweak it, I guess it
remembered 3840x1200). That's my recollection anyway. I used the
computer that night and went to bed.

In the morning both displays had the power button lit amber (blue for
on, blank for off, amber for standby). I guess it had gone to sleep or
maybe even just blanked the screen. I swiped the touchpad or tapped
the keyboard and it came awake. External #1 (VGA) stayed button-amber
with no display, though it appears the backlight is lit. External #2
(DP) woke up and displayed the right half of the desktop (just the
wallpaper). The internal display stayed blank.

I right-clicked on External #2 and got the Graphics Properties. Still
said Extended Desktop (VGA+DP). Changed to Single External and DP
only, then applied, and I've got the desktop (icons, start bar, etc.)
on what was External #2. Meanwhile External #1 is apparently still
backlit, still amber power button, does nothing if I tap the power
button. I assume if I make it External #1 only I'll lose all control,
and I'm afraid to do that. I think it may also have given weird
behaviour when I've hibernated and taken out of hibernation. I expect
that if I shut down completely, then power up, I may be able to get 2
displays, but I haven't tried yet.

So what I'm wondering is if this is likely the system board. Probably
not the VGA connector, since it (something weird) has happened both
connected directly and with a standing Ultrabase connection. Or might
it be the SSD somehow, either defective or in the cloning? One is a
call to Lenovo, the other is put in the old HD.

Thanks!
