The Apache Thrift project is not allowed to distribute cygwin1.dll
without full source of Cygwin as it is licensed under the GPL.
I agree that the process needs to be easier on Windows. I was waiting
for an official release before trying to upload cross-compiled exe's
myself but I'll try to see if I can get Hudson or something to work
against trunk.

Hi,
I'd like to make a suggestion:
How about making daily builds of the thrift compiler for windows
(and other platforms like MacOSX) as the effort to make the compiler
run (install cygwin, set everything up, etc...) is much higher than
on linux.
The thrift.exe for example could be easily built every day and
submitted as a zip file together with the cygwin1.dll as an
independent package to give users a quick start in using the thrift
generator. I just want to take some barriers down that may hold some
people back from using thrift.
Awaiting your comments...
Kind regards
