Exactly as you describe it.
I have had many months of trouble free downloads of 2 Yahoo.com
accounts and now they both behave like this.
Previously the trouble seemed to be associated with this extensions
inability to cope with more than 750 old emails accumulated, and
everything resumed working when I moved them to an archive folder
using a webmail interface.
Yahoo beta setting
T'bird 2.0.0.2
MS Windows XP sp3
Malfunction intermittent

I uninstalled the "Get all mails" add-on as I thought it was to blame,
but no change.
