The same filetype (.xpi) is used for the add-ons for both Firefox and
Thunderbird so it means that all .xpi files are assumed to be
installed for Firefox which is quite silly when the add-on is intended
for installation in Thunderbird.

To install the Thunderbird add-on try something like this:

1) Save the Thunderbird add-on to your desktop

2) Open Thunderbird

3) In Thunderbird Tools > Add-ons

4) Drag the the Thunderbird add-on from the Desktop onto the
Thunderbird Add-on window and click on "Install"

5) Restart Thunderbird
