I have the same versions as you, however my Thunderbird is en-US. I do not see the error in the Gmail options so this may well be a language related problem.
As to the negative vibes - I saw this error yesterday too. However I logged on to the Web interface for Gmail and I got a pop-up advertising the new Google calling service from PC to phone and another frame asking me to confirm my alternate mail address. When both of these were cleared the GMail add-on was able to log in and download mail again.
